New Best Burger Ever - Finally Simmo Take Away has been usurped from the top spot

Whenever I’m travelling I often go in search of burgers, it doesn’t matter where I am, sooner or later I’m going to feel the need for a juicy meat patty between some great bred buns. I tend to head down the Aussie route (naturally enough) and I look for burgers which have:

  • Beef patty (although beef and pork mix can be good)
  • Bacon
  • Cheese
  • Egg
  • Salad with onion, beetroot, leaves, tomato and sometimes pineapple.

A little take away store in Simpson Victoria known unassumingly as Simpson Take Away has held the best burger crown bestowed by me for several years, never being bettered by anyone (no @TraciC not even In-n-Out lol).

This burger was always lovingly made every time I went there which prior to Covid was three to four times per year. They were always consistent and something I have always looked forward to on every coastal photographic camping trip that I often do. They’ll see me again, but they’ve been bettered recently!

In the tiny town of Erica I found 1914 Cafe & Bar which blew my tiny burger mind. It came in a box because it needed to. It wasn’t one of those namby pamby little one handed things you so often get, it was a monster. I have to confess that I was unable to complete the task and my other half had to help me. The most impressive parts were the beef patty and the bacon - both of them were magnificent and cooked to perfection. The salad in the burger was very fresh. Getting fried onions instead of fresh was a really nice sweetening touch. They even had that rare mix of good burger and good chips!

The experience with 1914 started outside when we rang them because they looked closed, it turns out they were getting ready to close because they were nearly out of supplies having had a massive run from travellers only just recently allowed out of lock down (and now sadly only four days later back in again). They did have enough to make me a burger and invited me in. The store is amazing (check the photos on the link) and well presented. The service from the people there was genuinely friendly and as I mentioned in my review they actually care, given I had a burger box, a scone box, a drink and some other things my hands were full. The lady popped out from behind the counter and got the door for me. I also appreciated the Covid check in and availability of hand sanitiser and the enforcement of wearing masks inside. Another nice touch was that the boxes are made of recycled card and the cutlery they give you is bamboo. They’ve minimised the use of plastic in their business.

Naturally enough 1914 has gotten themselves a pretty good review :).

So its your turn to impress me Connect people - where does your best burger come from and what does it look like?

@PaulPavlinovich I know - it is just seeing your photo reminds me of eating it over there.

But, my friend did try Ferburgers in Queenstown and she said it is so yummy. Here, in Cambodia, a local branded café named Brown, they localized burger in different styles and ways and I think I love it. That’s why I feel hungry I see your photos :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, I am not into Burger and did not try it so I cannot really say how good or bad it is from my point of view @PaulPavlinovich but I trust you since you have been with there, done that. Burgers and Pizza were brought into Cambodian food society perhaps in mid 2000s since I was in the university. It is getting better these days.

You’ve made me hungry @PaulPavlinovich :full_moon_with_face: … Need to order something else… Right now

Your best burger looks delicious @PaulPavlinovich That bacon slice is perfect

I have 2 best burgers:

1.- Bacon Burger from Sliders ( Pro Tip: add Bacon marmalade for 1$ USD) Fried onions would improve it a lot

2.- (I can’t remember the name  ) from Butcher and Sons, I tried this burger at a race event, usually food served at events is not that good, but this one made me change my mind, I need to visit the restaurant for a double check

Saludos.

That one looks nice @LaloPadilla nice crunchy bacon.

Aussies call McDonalds Macca’s @SilvyC - the corporation has actually changed its name here - there is still plenty of McDonalds signage but “Macca’s” is turning up on restaurants and is in their online branding now https://mcdonalds.com.au/ - their menu here looks familiar to overseas visitors until they eat it - its totally different to what you find in other countries.

Five Guys is a staple when I’m in New York, I like their burgers, they’re good, but they’re not #1.

Wow… Burgers do look amazing , don’t they @PaulPavlinovich ? The fries along with the burger just adds the extra love and touch to the dish ! Although I am a vegeterian, the burger does look tempting, do they also have a vegeterian or vegan option? Its good to know about other good burger places than McD or Burger King chains…haha… They really dominate the burger world , atleast here in th UK !!!

I don’t think that place does @Globe_trotter_Ish but there are plenty of veg and vegan options around, there is a cafe near me called Nature Bar which specialise in vegan food that doesn’t look, taste or feel like stereotypical vegan food.

Take a look at the photos on Maps and you will see what I mean! This was my burger on the most recent visit
