[Netherlands] One Day in Rotterdam : Things To Do

Now it’s time to cross border to the Netherlands where is famous for windmills, tulips and many more things to see.

Rotterdam is the first city to visit. From Cologne, we took the train to Amsterdam and changed to Den Haag (a.k.a the Hague). We stayed there for one night. From the Hague, it’s very easy to go to Rotterdam - just 30 mins by train.

[Germany] One Day in Cologne : Things To Do

To briefly describe, Rotterdam is a very small city and it only takes half-day to explore but if you would like to visit Kinderdijk, UNESCO World Heritage Windmills, you need to have additional 3-4 hours.

Luckily, we were in Spring to Summer season so we got long daylight hours to cover both Rotterdam and Kinderdijk in one day.

1. Rotterdam Centraal

Address: Stationsplein 2, 3013 AJ Rotterdam, Netherlands

Website: ret.nl

Rotterdam Centraal is one of the most iconic architectural sites in Rotterdam.

2. Market Hall / Markthal

Address: Dominee Jan Scharpstraat 298, 3011 GZ Rotterdam, Netherlands

Rotterdam Markthal is an indoor market hall that has its own style. The apartments are arched over the food market in a horseshoe configuration. The main halls consist of the market itself as well as shops, restaurants, supermarkets and car park.

Nearby the Markthal, city center is also situated in this area. Many people like to come out and spend time here.

3. Cube Houses / Kijk-Kubus

Address: Overblaak 70, 3011 MH Rotterdam, Netherlands

Website: kubuswoning.nl

Opening Times: Monday - Sunday 10AM-6PM

Cube Houses are the furnished house with models, photos & computers explaining architect Piet Blom’s cube project. With its design, the yellow-cubed houses are undoubtedly an iconic landmark in Rotterdam.

Next post will be about Kinderdijk, UNESCO World Heritage Site which is about 30-60 min from the Rotterdam by train/boat.

Thank you very much for your visit

Hi @SunPanupong ,

Thank you!

That’s a wonderful depiction of Rotterdam. You have captured glimpses of life and living so colorfully and artistically. I admire and love your style of photographing and presentation.

Rotterdam is dotted with the wise sayings of their philosopher Erasmus. One of his sayings says:

Where i feel good, i’m at home!

I remembered that as i relished your cool post on the city.

Thank you again and all the best going forward.

Your one day here, or two days there series (?) cheer me up! Keep it up!

Cheers!

Hi @SunPanupong ,

Was this your first visit to Rotterdam? I was there a year ago, but only briefly for an hour so I didn’t see all these beautiful buildings you took photos of. I would have wanted to hear what was your favorite place, what you liked most and what do you definitely recommend seeing.

Local Guides that participate on Connect are currently limited to 1000 photos uploads, so be mindful of how many you are uploading.

Thanks again for sharing these amazing photos!

@SunPanupong - the cloudy weather you had while on your European vacation sure made your beautiful photos even more epic or dramatic in feel. I really enjoyed the Markthal and Cube Houses photos in particular, for both the dramatic clouds and the unique building architecture.

You mentioned you stopped at The Hague briefly. Did you by chance visit the World Court - the U.N. International Court buildings?

Cheers,

Karen
