Keukenhof Garden is one of my destinations when visiting the Netherlands, especially in May when the tulip season almost comes to an end but we’re still in time to see a variety bloomed colorful tulips. According to the website, approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually in the Keukenhof Garden, which covers an area of 32 hectares (79 acres)
You can find other posts from my Europe Trip (May 2019) here:
Address: Stationsweg 166A, 2161 AM Lisse, Netherlands
Website: keukenhof.nl
Opening Times: Vary - limited time of the year: Keukenhof is open annually from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather. The garden will be open from 21 March to 10 May, 2020.
Purchase ticket online to avoid queue. You can easily show QR Code in the ticket from your mobile to staff to scan - no need to print out the ticket.
Try to be there early - the garden is less busy before 10:30 and after 16:00. Also, it is less busy on weekdays, especially Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The light of the morning and evening sun allows you to take wonderful photographs.
Proceed to the windmill on the right hand side of the map first as these spot is the most popular for photography (without too many crowds). Since we arrived at the garden around 0730 AM, we’re the first group to access the garden.
Above all, it’s worth to visit there once. We’re really impressed and also enjoyed taking photos of all the flowers and tulips. You can spend half-all day to explore the entire garden. One last recommendation from me is to check with weather forecast first before planning to go there. All sets of colorful flowers are perfectly matched with sunny and clear blue sky.
Great photos @SunPanupong , and the whole place looks beautiful!
Thank you for providing all the details needed for visiting and extra tips for whoever wants to visit there in the future, I’m sure it will come in handy.
Is it easy to get there with publiv transportation from Amsterdam or would you recommend renting a car?
Your photos have certainly shown the beauty of the spectacularKeukenhof Garden @SunPanupong , well done. I love the photos with the white stallion in the shoot.
I was expecting this post, thanks for all the details that you’ve shared about these lovely gardens. I visited the Netherlands as I previously mentioned in one of your posts but I didn’t have the chance to see Keukenhof. One of the reasons was that my trip was in August and another - it was organised tour and this place was not in the itinerary. Nevertheless, I am planning to see these tulip gardens some day. Wish me luck!
Is there anything else in the area that might be fun to do?
@MortenSI Thanks for your comment - I am very much appreciated
To get there, there are so many ways e.g. bus, Uber, or private car. In the Netherlands, renting a car is not necessary as there are well-established public transportation system in place but if you travel with more than 3-4 friends/family members, renting the car can be considered if transportation cost per head is cheaper.
In this trip, I traveled with my family (4 persons) and we mostly used public transportation to reach to all places. For the trip to Keukenhof Garden, we took the train to Schiphol Airport and took an Uber directly to the garden.
@MoniDi I’m very much appreciated for your comment and yes I remember that you mentioned about your trip:)
As I said, Keukenhof is limited open only from mid-March to mid-May every year and you need to manage your annual trip schedule for this place. I would say it’s totally worth to be there if you are passionate about tulips, flowers and gardens.
Keukenhof Garden is located in Lisse where is approx. 40km from Amsterdam so it could be arranged as a day trip from Amsterdam.
In Lisse itself, there are also other tulip fields to explore but not famous for tourists - I didn’t go there as well.
@MortenSI Yeah ! Sometimes, Uber is perfect for short trip to somewhere you don’t want to walk.
I’m really appreciated that this post would help you all here
@davidhyno Great post ! well done
We arrived the Keukenhof early then we decided to go to Giethoorn in the afternoon to cover all the places we would like to visit.
@Velvel I think it becomes a bucket for many people now
I spent approx. 2-2.5 hrs in the garden and I thought it’s enough for us - got many great photos and covered most of the garden.
