Until 2018, Google Maps had a feature that allowed users to create temporary event locations with detailed information.
This feature was particularly useful for festivals, fairs, concerts, and public events that took place in temporary locations such as open fields, parks, and stadiums.
However, contributors have resorted to creating permanent map locations for such events after its removal, leading to unnecessary clutter and misinformation.
In Bangladesh, cultural festivals and events are frequently organized in public spaces like Suhrawardy Udyan, which hosts the Amar Ekushey Book Fair every year for a month in February 1-28,
along with other fairs, Bengali New Year celebrations, Victory Day events, and political gatherings. Each year, new location pins are created for these recurring events, and after their completion, these locations become irrelevant, contributing to map pollution. Thousands of reviews and photos are uploaded to these temporary locations, rendering them useless once the event ends.
If Google Maps reinstates the Add Event feature, contributors can create temporary event listings without generating excessive and redundant locations. This would ensure a cleaner, more efficient map experience while still allowing people to share event-related content. The restoration of this feature would significantly reduce the accumulation of unnecessary map locations, improving overall accuracy and usability.
Reactivating the Add Event feature is crucial for maintaining the integrity of Google Maps while supporting community-driven contributions in an organized manner.
I have written on another topic, although I can’t write it neatly, I hope you will understand what I mean @DeniGu. If you think it is important after reading it, please forward it to the appropriate team.
