Typing in the address for Crowley’s Ridge State Park generates search results for a different address. I’ve had this issue before with a location in California and a Google Product Expert told me it can’t be reported by users, but he/she was able to resolve it as a Diamon Level Product Expert.
The problem is, I’m having this issue again with a state park in Arkansas, but no one has answered my post and Google has locked it. In short searching for “2092 Hwy 168 North Paragould, AR 27450” generates results for “2092 Hwy 168 West, Paragould, AR 72450,” sending tourists to a field in the middle of nowhere.
Hi @CaitBuss , “Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect”. This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.
Reporting the issue in the Google Maps Help Community was the right thing to do, but you should do this in a different way. A Product Expert is a volunteer like you and me, and they know that Google, to keep an issue in consideration, needs to have a different kind of evidence.
Let me try to explain:
The address, as shown in the website of the park is “2092 Hwy. 168 North, Paragould, AR 72450”. However if you click on the “GET DIRECTIONS” link provided by them in the same web page you will be sent to “2092 **AR-**168 North, Paragould, AR 72450”. The difference is in “AR-168 North” Vs “168 North”.
A search in Maps about “2092 Hwy. 168 North, Paragould, AR 72450” is sending you to “2092 Hwy 168 West, Paragould, AR 72450” because the address 168 North doesn’t exists in Maps, so the search engine is addressing you to the closest one (168 West)
Obviously there is a mistake somewhere, but Maps cannot decide to make a change without an “official” support. To decide which is the right address (and possibly correct the current one) Maps must rely on an official cartography. It can be a publicly accessible map released by the County, or the Arkansas state, but in any case it must be an official one.
I suggest you to find such document and to submit a new post in the Support page by attaching that document.
Do you have a doubt about how to do something related to the Local Guides program or to this community? The Help desk is here for you, with a long list of post with detailed indications on how to post.
Which kind of contents we share in Connect? What are Connect topics? will give you an explanation
@ErmesT , thank you for your help! Your response is VERY informative.
There’s good news; I may already have what I need. I was contacted by a State Parks resource about this issue. Is a screenshot of their email stating the correct address enough to get this resolved?
I have also found two AR State Parks resources online that have the address my contact mentioned in her email. These two resources also include maps showing the location of the park. I’ve linked them below.
I do not think that kind of maps are enough for Google Maps to make a change (you need one from the County or the State, or the national archive), @CaitBuss , but if you have a contact in the State Park they can try to submit the correct cartography by themselves, using the Map content Partner program. Please share with them the following links:
In addition to the helpful reply from @ErmesT , I just want to let you know that I will change the topic of your post to How-tos to keep Connect organized. This is the place where you can ask questions, share tips and feedback about Connect and the Local Guides program.
@CaitBuss@ErmesT I wonder if those maps could be enough since Arkansas State Parks is an official state agency with a GIS team. If it doesn’t suffice though, then perhaps the Arkansas GIS Office could provide a map. They are the state’s official mapping agency.
I did get help from a Platinum Product Expert. They requested three items one of which is a screenshot of the address in the parcel map of “Greene County, AR.”
Now I’m just waiting on our parks contact to let us know if these items they can provide to me so that I can update the thread and resolve the issue.
