Need help: Merge the duplicate POIs

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re doing great. Nowadays I seeing an increasing number of duplicate POIs. Maybe this is happening because of a lot of new local guides are trying to contribute. But they are not checking whether the place already exists or not.

I believe the team working on this issue and hope we will see the effect soon.

But for now, I need help from Google moderators in merging the POIs mentioned below. I know I can report duplicates using the Maps and I do this every time I found duplicates. But POIs mentioned below are very popular and important and this is why I am asking for help from the team so these get merged immediately.

Bashundhara City Shopping Complex

The most popular shopping mall in Bangladesh. And as far as I know, this is the most reviewed business in Google Maps of Bangladesh.

Original listing: Bashundhara City Shopping Complex

Duplicate listing: Bashundhara Shopping Complex

Indian Visa Application Centre, Dhaka

Original listing: Indian Visa Application Centre, Dhaka (Main Branch)

Duplicate listing: Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC), Bangladesh

Spam listing: INDIAN VISA APPLICATION CENTER (JFP) (Far away from the original location, whoever added this either he has done spam or wrongfully done this)

Spam listing: INDIAN VISA APPLICATION HELP (Uses the official website link and general keyword-based name which does not adhere to name policy)

Ideal College

Original listing: Ideal College

Duplicate listing: Ideal College

Spam listing: IDEAL COLLEGE ENTRANCE (this is spam and makes no sense. An entrance of a college should not on maps. And this is just in the middle of a busy road.)

One question how does maps work with duplicate reports? Are the duplicates reports reviewed by Googlers or handled by software?

I will update the list time to time if I spot duplicates of any important listing here. Hope you will help to make maps duplicates free.

Hi @SaifIS

The duplicate POIs do no vanish even after reporting the same, and there are various reasons for that.
At the same time, you will find the information provided by @Amiran in the attached thread of discussion on the same subject, to be useful.

Hi @KatyaL , I see the first two has been implemented. But Bashundhara City Shopping Complex has been merged wrongly. Now the name is showing as 'Bashundhara Shopping Complex’. But the popular name is Bashundhara City Shopping Complex. I’d request you once again to make this correction.

Viqarunnisa Noon School & College

1. Correct marker location which has been created recently as the original one has been moved far away: Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, Azimpur Branch

2. The original listing with lots of reviews which has been moved to a wrong place. In front of a cantonment gate: Viqarunnisa Noon School & College

So now, please move 2 to the original location as 1 and merge them together.

I want to report another serious scam. Someone has changed the details of a popular Public University to his own mobile phone repair shop. Please review the below information and take appropriate action. Several local guides including me have reported this but nothing has changed yet.

@KatyaL I am frustrated by this scam. A person has claimed one of our popular destinations. Our national zoo. I don’t know-how Google My Business is verifying the ownership. I can’t believe this. This person has changed the name of the zoo to his own name and has move the map marker to his. This is really bad. I have reported several times scam like this where people had claimed popular business with lots of reviews. Please take action!

I’d like to know how these spammers can easily manipulate these popular businesses? I’d suggest you set some sort of sensitivity for listings by the importance of the business-like photos, reviews, etc.
