I was lucky to be passing by Arusha and had time to visit this museum located within the old German Boma, which means fortified complex constructed in 1900. The Museum is operative and open to the public since 1987 every day from 9:00Am to 6:00Pm. Visits are priced at 2500 Tanzanian shillings for East African members and 10500/6300 Tanzanian shillings for adults/students Tourists. I though this is a fair price looking at how interesting the museum is, This place is a must if you have few minutes in Aruhsa it is definitely worth it.
The museum it is located at the end of the northbound of “Boma road” from the famous roundabout clock tower. There are plenty of car parking space outside and the building is low levered and no stairs.
The museum has three zones. At the entrance, you start by a space dedicated to human evolution, original Tanzanian earth extracted and reconstructed fossils tells the story about human evolution.
The second zone is an exhibition of preserved insects and replicas to highlighting their importance in the ecosystem; the third zone contains the history of Arusha throughout German colonial period and the last part showcases nature photographs as well as realistic looking wildlife mounts.
Wow, this is awesome! I really enjoyed ready this and I’m particularly happy about the conservation aspect of finding the animal, rather than killing them for a purpose.
My favorite photo is the zebra pic, so thanks for sharing the photos! Besides the museum, did you explore other activities in the area?
Indeed, My plan was to hike Kilimanjaro mountain, unfortunately, my partner was not feeling well so we decided instead to Visit the nearby National Park called Tarangire, Sooo much wildlife especially elephants.
Thanks, this sounds like a plan and I think any traveler looking to visit Tanzania should add this to their list. Hopefully soon, you will get another opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro and share your experience with us.
There is nothing more exhilarating than being in nature and seeing part of the Big Five. What a blessing!
Thank you, I will be attempting the hike again this year, I hope to bring back a lot of adventure stories and photos Planing to bring along my 360 Camera. I’ll share the adventure later after @AlexaAC
