Canberra, whilst it is the capital city of Australia, is also surrounded by bushland. We have a lot of wildlife that live around Canberra and that sometimes come into the suburban areas! Kangaroos are the most common native animal around Canberra, and this mob of Kangaroos is only a 5 minute walk from our home. From time to time, kangaroos have even been known to hop down the main roads of Canberra early in the morning when they are very active.
Other than Kangaroos, there is a lot of native birdlife that visits our garden. Unfortunately I’m usually not ready to take photos of the birds when they are there, so please forgive my mobile phone quality photos!

I went to Kalgoolrie 10 years ago on business. I found kangaroos and Tiliqua rugosa around my office. And alpacas in a small village near the office.

Thanks for sharing this great post with us! The Australian natural diversity is amazing and you are very lucky to be able to enjoy it. Cangaroos are lovely special animals and these ones seem to be used to humans, did you have the chance to get closer?

Kangaroos can be dangerous in the wild, they are known to attack to protect their mob and can cause serious injuries. So I don’t like to get too close, as they can see this as threatening. Here I was about 15m away with two fences between (which they can jump if they want) so I was a bit safer.
There are tame kangaroos at the local Canberra Zoo that you can pat if you want!
