Tokamachi City（Niigata prefecture in Japan): Important Cultural Property of Japan which was the sochinju（local Shinto deity) ‘Matsuso-jinja Shrine’ of Matsudai and Matsunoyama area.
It is a rare traditional event that boys aged 7 years old (Full 6 years) climb the mountain and to be purified a visit to the shrine, which is located on the top of Mt. Matuso at an altitude of 360 meters.
Just this year, my son became 7 years old in the traditional Japanese system and joined the event.
It is a light mountain climbing of 20 minutes on foot for adults.
It’s a little adventure for young children.
When you reach the summit safely, you will be purified at the main building of the shrine.
Unfortunately, the Shinto priest has stopped climbing the mountain, so the local residents do the purification.
After the exorcism, families, and relatives spread picnic sheets on the shrine grounds and have a party while eating lunch.
Children choose their favorite toys and have their parents buy them, or they buy a wooden replica of a sword and warlord’s sword from relatives for commemoration and celebration.
The Showa period, the Heisei period, and the Reiwa period have changed, and according to the story of the “Keyaki no Kai” who manages and preserves this event, the number of children has decreased year by year.
They thought about how to deal with the declining birthrate in the future.

タイトル：７歳の成長を祝う地域行事 七つ詣り 十日町市松代・松之山地域の総鎮守であった国の重要文化財『松苧神社』 標高約360メートルの松苧山山頂にある松苧神社を目指し、数え年7歳（満6歳）に達した男子が登山に挑み、参拝を行う珍しい伝統行事です。
ちょうど今年は、私の息子も数え年で７歳となり参加させていただきました。
大人の足で、徒歩20分の軽登山となります。 まだ幼い子どもにとっては、ちょっとした冒険です。
無事に登頂すると、神社の社殿で、お祓いを受けます。 残念ながら神主さんが登頂しなくなったため地元住民の方が、お祓いを代行しています。
お祓いの後は、神社境内にて家族や親戚でレジャーシートを敷いてお弁当を食べながら宴会が行われます。
子どもたちは、好きな玩具を選んで親から買ってもらったり、親戚の人などから戦国時代の軍配と刀の木製のレプリカを記念とお祝いに買ったりします。
時代も昭和、平成、令和と移り変わり少子化が加速度を増しています。
この行事を運営保存する欅の会の方のお話では、年々子供の数が少なくなっていることを実感しているとのことでした。
