Mystery Island

Earlier this year, before the COVID-19 lockdown, I was fortunate enough to have re-visited Mystery Island in the South Pacific and in this post I’d like to share some photos with you and tell you a little bit about this idyllic location.

Mystery Island is small but amazingly beautiful tropical island paradise in Vanuatu. It’s an uninhabited island and run by local villagers who live on the larger nearby Aneityum Island. It’s also a popular destination for cruise ships and the locals love it when these big ships from a world unknown to them visit as they welcome the tourist income. We were there in March 2020 when an American cruise ship sailed in and we saw the Island’s population increase from us 3 to what must have been 2000+ in a very short time.

As well as maintaining and keeping the island clean, the islanders set up craft market stalls and sell souvenir items including handicrafts and artifacts, as well as fresh local foods and drink including kava, coconuts, and to die for lobster. As well as swimming in crystal clear turquoise and warm water you can hire balloon donuts and bask in the tropical sun, shade under palm trees, snorkel among the coral reefs, paddle board, tour on glass bottom kayaks, feast on coconut and/or lobster or just lay on the finest of white beach sands. There are no roads and no vehicles! It’s truly a piece of South Pacific paradise!

The cruise passengers left the island and cruised away at about 4pm. We stayed on in paradise to watch the beautiful South Pacific sunset. It’s a beautiful island and the local people are just as beautiful.

Have you been to a beautiful island such as this?

Wow @AdamGT !

This post is fabulous!

Thank you for making us part of this heavenly place! I have never been to such. Thinking about it, I’ve visited an island just once. The Thasos island in Greece.

While it is an amazing place to visit, it is quite different from the tropical islands. And the thought that it was just three of you there before the cruise passengers came, does not leave my mind. I would love to have a vacation there.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you @MAHBUB_HYDER . It is indeed a beautiful island and you are a supper LG supporter!

I’m so glad that you enjoyed my recap on Mystery Island @MashaPS . It truly is a piece of unspoilt South Pacific paradise! The Thasos island in Greece is beautiful (I have been there) but massively larger than tiny Mystery Island that measures only a few hundred metres wide and about 1km long. It’s a must visit for a totally “mystery” island experience!

Hi @AdamGT,

I agree with you. On this perspective the only common thing is that both places are islands :slightly_smiling_face:

I hope to have such an experience one day.
