Mysore Pinjrapole society

Mysore Pinjrapole society is a non-profit organization for cow protection. If you look for the word meaning of Pinjrapole in English it gets translated to Animal Shelter. A temporary home for stray animals. Here they take care of cows mainly.

It came into existence in 1908 for taking care of the aged and infirm cattle and went through a lot of financial struggles and almost got closed. Now it has 28 sheds and takes care of milch cows, buffaloes, heifer and bull calves, dry cows, dry buffaloes and blind animals which would have been butchered otherwise. One can also find plenty of pigeons that have made this place their own homes. The Pinjrapole runs biogas plants, dairy, sells manure and rents out its land for generating income. And also depends heavily on the donations that come from kind hearted communities.

You can read more about this on the online edition of the Indian newspaper- it is an old edition- The Hindu archives (dated August 18th 2003) at https://www.thehindu.com/thehindu/mp/2003/08/18/stories/2003081800150300.htm
