Night Photography at Mysore - Mysore Palace & Exhibition Ground

(a technical discussion)

Once again thanks for your motivation & comments; I also had requests from my What’sApp Group, to know more about the shots – hence, the details are given as a post; hope you will evaluate & respond.

These are from our Mysore trip on 15th, Oct 2018; I was ably accompanied by Saravanakanth; once again, I thank him, too

For the night photo-shoot, we used the following gadgets:

The cameras: (I am including the main features of camera, for your, ready reference)

  • Sony RX 10 M2: (A full frame, 24 to 200mm, fixed lens with constant 2.8 Aperture, 21 Megapixel)
  • Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: (F: 1.5 & 2.4, 12 Megapixel)
  • Insta360 One: (360 Spherical Camera, 24 Megapixel, with 6 axis stabilization)

The Stands:

  • Vanguard
  • Insta360 Stick
  • Mobile Gimbals & holder

Technical:

#. The Sony & Insta360 were stand mount

#. Sony on 2 Sec-timer, for all the night shots (hand operated)

#. Insta360 operated thru Mobile Bluetooth.

Details: of original: File Size = 7.41 MB, Pixels: 4864 X 3648, F/8, Exposure = 0.8 Sec, ISO-100, Foc. Length = 73 mm, Zoom = 200mm

#-2. A street out side, St. Philomena’s church (ambient (day) light was available)

File Size = 9.89 MB, Pixels: 4864 X 3648, F/8, Exposure = 2.0 Sec, ISO-100, Foc. Length = 16 mm, Zoom = 43mm.

#-4. Exhibition Ground - A multi colour fountain

File Size = 12.40 MB, Pixels: 4864 X 3648, F/8, Exposure = 1/3 Sec, ISO-800, Foc. Length = 9 mm, Zoom = 24mm.

Even though I’m still a bit uncertain about some camera features, I’m sure that if I follow your process and use the same settings, I’ll be able to reproduce this high quality. Very useful, indeed!

Surely,you will be able to shoot mind blowing shots (which will excite you), with the settings, plus few trial & error shots…! :+1:

I shall try to give a small post, on how easy it is, to use Manual mode in Mobile Camera.

2 points:

  1. Then, few of your shots are Excellent, close to pro ones.

  2. Surely, mobile cameras have it’s advantages, but, I suggest it is time for you, to get a reasonable modern stand alone camera.
