Caption: The Cover Photo of Hippopotamus.

Dear Friends,

A request - if you like the photos, can I request you to kindly TAG your friends, please? - let them also enjoy - right? - thanks for your favour.

This is a series of Photo Posts where I am going to introduce one animal in each post. Most of the photos are from different Zoos including Mysore Zoo, Vandaloor Zoo, Nandankanan Zoo etc. - in this post, let us discuss Hippopotamus.

Have you ever captured any photos of Hippopotamus? Can you give me company by publishing your shots?

Hippopotamus

The hippopotamus (Hippo) (scientific name: Hippopotamus amphibius) is a big ungulate animal. It is semi-aquatic and inhabitant of Saharan - Africa. It belongs to the Hippopotamidae and its genus is Hippopotamus.

The name Hippopotamus is derived from a Greek word that means the River horse. The Hippopotamus mostly prefers banks of rivers and lakes to relax. Hippopotamus has short legs and a short tail. They are huge in size, an adult male has an average length of 11 feet and weighs approximately 3000 kg. Females are smaller than males, an adult female weighs approximately 2200 kg. Their skin is as thick as 2 inches and it is in greyish brown colour.

The Hippos are considered vulnerable according to the Red List of IUCN. They are hunted for their meat and their population drastically decreased in recent years.

As an LG Photographer, I have spotted Hippo in Nandankanan Zoo Here, Bannerghatta Zoological Park Here & Mysore Zoo Here

Thank you very much for your immediate response…

Such words are really soothing…

Glad to notice that your choice is Photo No:5…

I really took time to capture these rare shots…

Usually, you can see one or two hippos only… Right?

For your kind information, Nandankanan Zoo has the largest number of Hippos…

Once again thanks for your continuous support, always, dear @Mukul_Anand

Oh… What a cute post from the hippo @indahnuria

It was a great moment to capture and you nailed it!

Hippopotamus is a cute and strong animal. I could say that most of the time they’re lazy, aren’t they? @TravellerG

You captured the photos so well, Sir!

I will check my old photos whether I have hippo’s photo or not. The last time I visited a zoo in Jakarta was in 2018 back then

Looking forward to another animal’s photo series, Sir. I love animal as well!
