Three famous religious shrines are situated on three hills near the harbor in Old Visakhapatnam. I’ve previously shared about two religious shrines here and here on Connect. Today, I’d like to share my experience visiting the Dargah Hazrat Syed Ali Ishaq Madani Auliya Wale Baba. It’s a famous Muslim shrine and one of the iconic tourist destinations in Visakhapatnam.
History:
This Dargah is believed to be one of the oldest buildings in Visakhapatnam, with its origins tracing back to before 1257 AD. The annual Urs ceremony at the Dargah is an important event, devotees of all faiths from the city’s Hindu, Muslim, and Christian communities attend this event.
Location: The Dargah is situated approximately 10 km from the city bus complex and 5 km from RK Beach.
How to reach: Auto-rickshaws are readily available from RK Beach and city bus stand.
Accessibility: As the shrine is located on a hilltop, visitors need to climb a set of stairs. Wheelchair accessibility is not available.
Dress code: I visited the Dargah as a tourist, but did not enter the shrine. No dress code is required to see the Dargah from out side as a tourist. Religious dress code to be followed to go inside the shrine.
Amenities: You’ll find a variety of local shops and eateries at the base of the hill.
For folks like me that didn’t know before (or just slow at connecting the dots), Dargah means shrine.
Are you able to enter the shrine? From my own experience with religious places, there usually is a dress code when entering e.g. no shorts, shoulders must be covered. Also, some of your captions could be improved on. View1, View2 etc could be improved on e.g. view of the front entrance to the shrine, view of the minaret etc. Your captions should try to explain what the photo shows.
I visited the Dargah as a tourist, but did not enter the shrine. Thank you @AdrianLunsong for reading my post and offering your views. I have edited the dress code, photos, and captions.
