My very spontaneous trip to Portugal (Part 1)

At first I want to introduce myself to the Local Guides Community – So, hey there! :v: I‘m a 23 year old geography and history student from Austria who loves to travel and (making) music :studio_microphone: :guitar: :trumpet: . But enough about me. I want to tell you something about my spontaneous trip to Portugal last September.

I would like to split this post into three parts or more. I’ve experienced so much in these two weeks in Portugal - one post would get too long! So stay tuned for the following parts here on Local Guides Connect!

The whole story starts about a year ago. Some of my friends were planning a trip to portugal and also asked me if I would like to join them. As some of you - especially the studends among us - my know, a summer job is very important for me. Therefore I had to cancel the invitation. A few months later - I think it was in late august or at the beginning of september, I organised a barbecue for all of my friends. In the course of the evening we started to talk about the upcoming portugal trip. As my summerjob ended earlie I told them if someone gets ill i will take his place. Yeah… OK… On september 4th at about 7pm I received a messeage from one of my friends I could go to portugal with them… To be honest, I am reallz not a spontaneous man. But on this evening I decidet to order a ticket for my flight from munich to lisboa 24 hours later. As my parents visited the U.S. at the same time I had to organise someone to feed the cat and take care about our flowers. And the most stressfull thing about this was, that I had to finish my bachelor thesis in about 20hour, but that is another story :joy:

1 day later I met my friends at the airport in munich and our 2 week long adventure started with a 4hour delay of our fight. Nevertheless we arrived at our hotel in Lisbon at 2am and immediately started to explore the city… OK, we started by exploring the nightlife in Lisbon. Therefore we visited a very famous student district called “Bairro Alto”. After a very short night I decided to stand up very early and started to explore the city of Lisbon on my own. I’ve rented myself an Lime Scooter and drove trough the awesome old streets and enjoyed the warm sun on this day. In the afternoon my friends decided to join my tour. Later we went to an awesome burger Restaurant called “To.B” - You should really go there when in Lisbon! On the next day we took the ferry to visit the statue of “Christo Rei” on a small hill in Lisbon. With a TUK-TUK we went to the statue and enjoyed the view over the whole city of Lisbon. We spent the next two days exploring the rest of the city and visited some bars before we packed our stuff to continue our trip trough Portugal!

That’s it for the first part of my story - please excuse my English - I hope it will get better after time  I will continue my story with the next few days in Portugal where we rented a van to begin our road trip trough the country.

I’m really looking forward to your feedback  - Here is part 2!

That’s it for today - greetings from Austria,
Berni.!

Hello @bernix97 , you might have wondered what happened to the first post you wrote, as that all of a sudden disappeared, right? Well, actually, it was accidentally caught in our spam filter (which is quite strict out here). I have now released it and merged it with your other post, to avoid that your Connect account would get flagged as spammer.

The result is that the content of your first post is now added as a comment to your second post. If you want, you can remove the content of that comment by clicking the ‘…’ at the bottom of the comment and then simply removing the content there (or replace it with something like “content removed as it was an accidental duplicate”).

Hi @bernix97

Thanks for sharing your post. Portugal is amazing, I’ve only been to Lisbon a few years back and I really liked it. What did you like most about your trip?

Do you have any tips and advice for Local Guides who haven’t been there yet? What would you say is a must-see place in Portugal?
