My trip to the Polistovsky reserve.

Hello dear friends,

I made an amazing trip to the reserve of the Pskov region some weeks ago…I had never been in a swamp,I wanted to understand it and feel it.To hear the murmur of streams, the singing of birds, to feel the soft quagmire of the swamp. I was with a group WWF.

The swamp is an amazing and mysterious place, not land and not water, it’s like the border between the worlds. The black water of its peat bogs, the quiet murmur of the rivers, the scent of wild crimson, the red berry cranberry, and the soft, waving bog under the moss.Polistovsky National Nature Reserve was established in 1994.

This is the biggest Europe raised bog system, which has been preserved in its original form.It located in Pskov region. The area under the reserve protection is 634.86 square km.

This amazing reserve is nice home to 205 species of birds,30 species of mammals,3 species of reptiles.

There grows more than 440 species of plants.,56 species of moss.

My friends and I visited 3 excellent routes–Mossmen Route

By the Beaver’s Path.

The Cranberry Tour.

The beaver is the Polistovsky reserve’s oldest inhabitant.

He is skillful builder and good swimmer.

We saw they multi-level houses with several rooms, saw a lot of beaver’s engineering constructions on bog rivers.

We also saw traces of moose, wild boar, bear.

It was heavy rain ,wet and cold ,but our mood was nice .

When we went to pick cranberries in the swamp -it was an amazing adventure-the water reached the black color above the knees, we were in high fishing boots, and feet stuck in the bog, we tried to follow strictly the guide, as it is safe.

In the evening we drink herbal tea with pie and honey.Local dishes from Russian stove are very delicious.!)

I would like to say that the swamp is an amazing and mysterious place, not land and not water, it’s like the border between the worlds. The black water of its peat bogs, the quiet murmur of the rivers, the scent of wild crimson, the red berry cranberry,.Have you ever drunk swamp water??) I drank.Incidentally say water the most net in those places, where is growing sphagnum moss. The peculiarity of this moss is that it disinfects water.

@helga19 Nice experience. When I saw your photos of Polistovsky reserve, I thought of Oze National Park (https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Hikers-Dream-Destination-Oze-National-Park-Japan/m-p/1845558#M517484). They look almost the same to me. How long did you walk? I’m sure you really had a good time. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

:slightly_smiling_face: :+1: :four_leaf_clover:

We have our trip about 2 -3 hours-4 km.-8 km every day. The weather was rainy and wet. It was not sunny days,so my photos are little darken or gloomy.

I saw that throught out the route the trail is equipped with wooden broadwalks. The Polistovsky reserve has the same .It is interesting for me, have you ever visited the Bog!?

It was exciting adventure.

Image that you are walking throught a swamp,a quagmire, around you and you fall almost waist deep in water. You are afraid to make a wrong step, because you fall into the abyss of the Bog or get bogged down in shaky guagmire. Our guide knew the safe route.

I drink swamp water,I must say that in those places where Sphagnum moss grows,it is clean.

Thank you so much for your comment.Sure ,you are right,it is Polistovsky National Nature Reserve.

There is my review about this place on the Google maps.,It is amazing place.!

Reserves as well as specially protected places are places not for mass tourism, and to get there you need to have a special permit. So I’ve been visiting the reserves with the group WWF for a few years now.

I have already visited reserve in Samara region . There is post about it in my profile.

Sure,I can not visit such place in Europe ,because I have no permission.

I like to visit reserve and National Parks ,because I love nature and wild animals.

I am supporter of WWF more than 10 years.

And of course I am interested in visiting such places.

I like to travel very much to different countries - it is my hobby or lifestyle)

Have a nice weekends!
