My tour to India: Part 7, The Great Haridwar Arti

On the auspicious day of May 22nd, 2022, I embarked on a soul-stirring journey to the holy city of Haridwar in India. Accompanied by three fellow travel enthusiasts, we were eager to immerse ourselves in the spiritual atmosphere that Haridwar is renowned for. We went there from Rishikesh Bus stand. Our primary purpose was to witness the enchanting and sacred Arti ceremony, an integral part of Hindu rituals, performed on the banks of the holy Ganges River. Little did we know that this experience would leave an indelible mark on our hearts and souls.

Upon reaching Haridwar, we delved into the vibrant tapestry of religious fervor that permeates the city. As we had a lot of luggage with us, we kept them under the custody of Bharat Sevashram Sangha – Haridwar. We met with the manager there and spent some beautiful moments there as a bonus. We tried to have the taste of mass dinner there but the tokens were over before we reached.

We found ourselves amidst a sea of devotees, all seeking solace and blessings from the divine. The air was filled with chants and prayers, creating an ethereal ambiance that transcended the physical realm. Two of our companions, followers of Hinduism, decided to partake in rituals that hold great significance within their faith. Witnessing their devotion and the rituals firsthand was a humbling experience, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the spiritual practices that shape the lives of millions.

You will see many Sadhu Baba (Holy man) like this one there.

As the evening approached, anticipation grew in our hearts as we prepared ourselves to witness the majestic Arti ceremony. We joined the vast gathering of devotees along the banks of the Ganges, eagerly awaiting the commencement of this sacred ritual. As the sun began to set, the atmosphere became charged with energy, and the sounds of bells, conch shells, and chanting filled the air. Priests, adorned in vibrant attire, moved gracefully as they performed intricate rituals, symbolically offering prayers to the divine. The synchronized movements and rhythmic chants created an aura of transcendence, captivating our senses and drawing us into the mystical realm of spirituality.

As the Arti ceremony unfolded, our senses were overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur of the event. The flickering flames of the oil lamps, known as diyas, reflected on the shimmering surface of the Ganges, creating an ethereal sight. Devotees fervently participated, some offering flowers, incense, or small oil lamps, while others stood in silent reverence. The resonance of sacred hymns echoed through the air, evoking a sense of unity and devotion among the gathering.

During our time in Haridwar, we took the opportunity to explore the bustling markets nearby. The vibrant bazaars offered a plethora of goods, ranging from religious artifacts and souvenirs to traditional clothing and handicrafts. We indulged in the local cuisine, savoring the flavors of authentic Indian dishes that tantalized our taste buds. The bustling streets were alive with the vibrant colors and sounds of daily life, providing a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region. We visited several food shops as were hungry at the end of the day. Our eating time was pleasing at Mathura Walo Ki Pracheen Dukaan. We tasted various kinds of sweets there. We took some packets to home.

On request of Abir Ariyan, I bought this holy item from Haridwar.

As our time in Haridwar drew to a close, we made our way to the bus stand, bidding farewell to this sacred city. Reflecting upon our journey, we realized that Haridwar had left an indescribable impact on our souls. The spiritual energy and devotion that permeated every corner of the city had touched us deeply, instilling a sense of peace and introspection within us. We carried the memories of the Arti ceremony and the sights, sounds, and tastes of Haridwar as cherished treasures, forever etched in our minds.

You can watch this video to know more about this Arti.

In conclusion, our visit to Haridwar and the sacred Arti ceremony was a transformative experience that awakened our spirits and deepened our connection to the divine. The profound sense of devotion and unity we witnessed among the devotees left an everlasting impression on our hearts. Haridwar, with its rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance, serves as a beacon of hope and enlightenment for countless pilgrims and seekers of truth. As we bid farewell to this holy city, we carry with us a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude, forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a profound and awe-inspiring journey. May the blessings of Haridwar continue to guide us on our path of spiritual exploration and self-discovery. Har Ki Pauri (Wikipedia)

Hello @MukulR

Its been quite a while. Nice to read a post from you again. It’s evident that you enjoyed your religious trip and explored every aspect of it.

The food, the street .Market, the religious rites and religious figures the travel etc. Who are the Sadhu baba? Are they different from priests who perform the religious rites? Just being curious.

I remember the meet-up I hosted and you gave a very beautiful and well organised tour of Bangladesh. Thank you again.

Happy guiding

Cheers

Hello @SholaIB thanks for your appreciation and remembering me.

Haridwar is really an amazing place to visit. If you watch the video in my post, you will see the volume of mass gathering there. It is just huge.

Regarding Sadhu Baba: they are hermit, you can say. Not the priest as usual. Most of the time, they stay far away from civilized areas.

I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for that once again. Stay safe.

Really amazing post, my dear friend @MukulR …

You have covered your visit much better than many others who are the believers of the shrine.

Yes, your video is also very good - I can understand the difficulty in capturing such a scene with such a vast human gathering.

Sad that you couldn’t taste the Prasad…

I believe that you have bought a “Rudraksh” chain… right? It has different importances…

Kindly convey our special regards to other fellow travellers.

With greetings & prayers…

From Bangalore…

Dear @TravellerG Ji,

First of all thanks a lot for the word “Rudraksh”. Unfortunately, I forgot this word and tried heart and soul to remember but failed. Finally, I got it from you. Thanks once again for this. Actually, I had a plan to buy it from the the holy Kedarnath but price seemed higher there. Genuine Rudraksh is not always available in our country. so one of the local guides requested me to bring one for him though I divided it into several parts and distributed to other people also and they became very happy. I gave some to one of my teachers and she was astonished after hearing about the buying place of it.

You are absolutely right, taking video there was much more difficult. Thousand of people were there and always someone was moving in front of my mobile. I had to work hard to capture videos here.

we had a very tight schedule, as a result, we could not mange time to take token for Prasad. If I go there again I must have the taste of this heavenly food.

Thanks a lot once again for your nice comments and appreciation. Thanks for watching the video.

Best Regards

Happy that my response could assist you.

It is touching to hear that you have distributed the Rudraksh to different believers - gifting Rudraksh is believed as a noble mission.

Hoping to read more from you soon…

Best wishes with prayers for all success.
