My thoughts on mobile photography for Local Guides Connect and other issues

I am all for phone photography. Almost all my images on Google Maps are taken with my phone. I find it convenient and practical since I don’t always have my camera equipment with me when I am going places.

This way I can take a snap any time anywhere and it is very unobtrusive and discreet. When I say a snap I don’t necessarily mean pointless non-committed shooting, I only approve of serious photography, although sometimes when taking photos for Google Maps and you need to describe a place architectural photography can be pretty straight forward. But that doesn’t mean we can’t keep it interesting.

Another positive for me using my phone for uploading and shooting is that I don’t always have time spend on the computer. I am always on the go, I work full time and I am always busy so I do this as a hobby and for fun. This is the way I relax and at the same time try to make everyone else’s life better by uploading more photos to Google Maps. Working from my phone is just perfect for me.

There are so many reason why people search for things on the internet, some are just bored and have nothing to do, but there are others who can not travel or are permanently stuck at home, others are trying to get to somewhere…Our photos bring a light someone’s life either by getting them there, making the place attractive enough that they want to visit, or just giving them a heads up before they do…giving them inspiration for their holidays and food for their imagination…So many possibilities and I love that.

There was a time when it was impossible for me to post to Local Guides Connect because my post never got through. It simply didn’t want to work from my phone this is why I have so few post at the present moment. I kept trying over and over but it was extremely frustrating since the post would collapse and not go through so I had to start all over again…It was too time consuming and I never knew if it would work so I gave up.

I just tried recently and finally whatever glitch there was, apparently it was fixed.

I always wondered why there is no app to go with Local Guides Connect?! It would be so easy to work that way…

So, To sum it up, keep taking photos with your phone but think before your mindlessly start snapping:

  • keep your phone steady

  • don’t use AIs for editing your images, do it yourself with a favourite app of your choosing.I mainly use Snapseed or the editor that comes with my phone, it all depends on what I want to do

  • don’t post blurred images, or compositions that repeat themselves

  • try to be original and think before you shoot. Why not change the angle? Stand on something or go low to the ground…

  • Have fun

Have a great day where ever you are ?

Thanks for sharing photos and interesting facts @Vratsagirl . I’m going to Ireland for first time in July, to visit the land of my ancestors. Unable to get to Galway, only Dublin. I’m sure I’ll enjoy and be back.

You post was really Good .

I used only my phone photos for the maps. Because it tells me the location. I do take with my DSLR , it’s a long process to post it in Maps.

Trying to post in LGC using Phone,

is a problem for me too. One month I didn’t post anything. From PC it’s easy but my photos are in the Phone.

Now slowly getting use to it. Still each post takes long time.

Keep posting more photos

Thanks @imran1986 I was using Huawei G7 for the last 4 years, great phone, loved the lens, took great pictures and worked like a horse all that time. Finally it gave up last month and I managed to upgrade to another Huawei p20 pro. Very cool camera on that one too. What do you use?

P20 is an excellent machine for photography. I wished to had that last year but was too much expansive then. Now I am using OnePlus 6. But planning to upgrade at the end of the year. @Vratsagirl . Are you enjoying the night mood?

HI @imran1986 I do love the P20. It makes great images with result very close to camera, if you can get read of the “Clever” Al …the artificial software designed to “improve” every shot…But after a lot of trying finally I got it…

But I am a bit lost… what is the night mood? do you mean the setting on the camera?
