Hello guys, I am Robin. I am 21 years old. I currently live in the city of Bangalore, India. I have been using Google Maps ever since I was in high school. Back then I only used Google Maps for directions to places I planned to visit.
Recently, I started becoming curious about who adds such beautiful images and details of many places on Google Maps. At first thought, I was like it’s probably Google who is doing all the work. But then after I started to did some research online, I realized that there are a few groups of Google Maps users called Local Guides, who are actively contributing to Google Maps by uploading pictures and giving reviews and edits to all these places.
From that moment I decided to start clicking and uploading pictures to Google Maps. Soon my pictures started getting attention on Google Maps. It started from a few 100’s and now it has reached more than 1.5 million views and still counting. This number gave me a sense of pride of how I am helping people all around me and this got me even more motivated to start contributing to Google Maps.
Meanwhile I also started getting Google perks such as the Google One which gave a free storage of 100GB to use across Drive, Gmail and Photos. This got me even more excited.
I realized that my pictures help thousands of people by giving them a different perspective of the location that I have visited. People can visualize the place they planned to visit without physically being there. This helps them to decide the best among their choices and save themselves from being disappointed later on.
To be honest I love sharing about almost anything on Google Maps, but most importantly I love sharing my experiences at restaurants and the pictures of the food I love the most. It is always important to share our experiences both good and bad in order to help others avoid the worst and find the best our cities have to offer.
I never knew that my involvement in Google Maps would have such an impact towards the communities around the world. This sense of fulfillment kept me constantly contributing to Google Maps and the community.
