Hello,
My reviews have been showing up on my account under “Contributions” but not publicly! What’s weird is if I do it on the computer instead then it sometimes works but sometimes doesn’t. Please HELP! My reviews used to show up IMMEDIATELY! Now I’m wondering how many of my reviews I have done that are hidden!
I haven had any reprimanding or broken any rules that I know of.
Why aren’t my reviews being shown publicly anymore??

Hi @x_poser_of_truth
You have uploaded 218 reviews and only 170 are public. So almost 50 of your reviews were made private. This happens when you are not sticking to the guidelines.
It is always a good idea to go over all your reviews to make sure they all adhere to the guidelines, including:
Prohibited and Restricted Content
Format Specific Criteria (See under Text Reviews and Captions)
If you need to identify which of your reviews are hidden please see this useful tip.
When you have identified which reviews are hidden start editing them to remove questionable elements. After resubmit you can check if your count of public reviews goes up in an incognito window.
Best of luck.

Hello @x_poser_of_truth
Your review might not be showing, if you have included any of these in your review: an email address, a URL or dollar or pound signs, or maybe another icon or symbol or special characters “&” “@” “( )” etc.
Please check your review, and remove any of these (if there is any) and let’s see if it publishes; otherwise, any or some of the words you used are violating the rules.

Hi @x_poser_of_truth I think the answer of @MortenCopenhagen is good so I’m going to set it as the solution to your question.
Looking over your reviews, what I would suggest is perhaps to wait a day or so before you write the review. In some of them you use very emotive language and that can trigger the filter. I would also recommend avoiding mentioning people by nationality or race e.g. “…the Indian guys…” as wording like this can do it too. I’m sure you don’t mean anything by it but some people do. I would also suggest avoiding ALLCAPS.
You can easily see which of your reviews are public by looking at your own profile while logged in and while not logged in incognito mode in the browser and compare. When you see which ones are excluded you can try to edit them to see if they will appear again.
If you have the text of a particular review you’d like constructive feedback for feel free to post here on this thread or you can PM me if you prefer with the text and I’ll try to make some suggestions.

Okay, I am having trouble seeing which ones are private. That is a lot of private reviews! Those are some good suggestions you made. Where do I see the numbers and amounts that are private as I don’t see that under my “Contributions”, I only see a total.

I have not added emails but perhaps smiley faces have triggered it? I wish Google Maps would ALERT you if they can’t post a review so that you know. I’m confused because I don’t see what I possibly could have violated as I don’t curse on the reviews.

Thank you for such a fast response. I’m confused on how to see if they’re private or not. I don’t see this under my Contributions, it just shows the total of reviews I have. Can you please help me with this? Also, is it possible that Google put me on a “close watch” account or something and just won’t post any of my things? It seems it only posts if I edit on the computer and not on the phone…

Any reviews I’ve made since I started my journey with Google Maps aren’t showing up publicly. At present, none of the reviews I have done so far are being published publicly.

Hi Morten,
I have a question for you. Most of my reviews never show up even after editing them. I have given up on writing reviews for the most part and started to just rate by star. However, that too is now being removed. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’m unhappy with my experience so far. I was surprised google offered to let me be a guide because they block so many of my reviews and ratings.
Any thought on why they are now removing starred ratings? I’ve had that happen several times. Google did leave one up for at least a couple of days, but then it was pulled down too. I’m not violating terms when I just leave a star review without any writing.
Thank you for your time.

Not hijacking the thread or post, but my reviews are not being shown the public as well.

You’re not hijacking the post. No one replied which is not surprising.
What I have discovered from others on different sites since I posted this is - Google removes a lot of posts & no one believes it’s their algorithm.
None of my reviews or ratings are allowed to go through anymore. There are plenty of people who have this issue. Most people point to businesses paying Google to suppress or promote reviews. I can definitely see how that makes sense.
It’s Google - they’re aware that reviews are being suppressed yet they do nothing about the system which they are blaming. Convenient, but doesn’t make sense. So Google, one of the biggest, most lucrative internet companies in the world can’t figure out a proper review system - Nah.
The last review I had go through - the one where workers were drinking beer by 11 a.m., took 2 months to fully complete an A/C install, & gave me attitude & lied to me continuously - that one was up for less than one day before it was removed & I received an email from a Reputation Defender company. Google is getting $$ from somewhere to suppress reviews. This A/C company was a disaster, yet they have 4.9 reviews, and the site is flooded - just flooded - with 5 star reviews for a full year.

Glad to find this discussion thread because I’ve experienced the same issue of disappeared / hidden reviews since about 1 or 2 years ago when my stats suddenly changed. Originally I thought my review stats were like this, 859 shown publicly (74.6%) vs. 1,151 shown on profile, likely due to Google starting to hide reviews that were too old.
Yet recently there were 2 phases when my reviews & ratings published then were hidden from public view. One recent phase was for about 2 weeks. The other for about 1 month (July 2022). Some of my hidden reviews & ratings included answers to the beta questions (dine-in/takeout, dinner/etc.). One observation was that these two “reviews & ratings being hidden” phases both began with a review of a relatively new place (i.e. not a lot of reviews were posted for it yet). I wondered if there were new control features for business pages that could trigger these two reviews to be hidden and subsequently impact my following reviews. In contrast, photos have been shown publicly, as far as I can tell from the increasing view counts & in incognito.
Some of my published reviews included special characters, such as “&” and “()” (to add translation of dish names), so I don’t think it was the cause. Really no idea why and a bit frustrating as a local guide.

Hey @MortenCopenhagen and @PaulPavlinovich ,
I read your solutions and went through the guidelines but I don’t think I happen to say any provocative things yet 13 out of my 29 reviews are hidden and maybe a couple dozen of photos as well.
Let me know if you can help thank you

A quick look suggests:
Don’t put Instagram links in your reviews.
Don’t add any super imposed text on your photos. I believe videos are under the same rule.
Removing all redundant photos. Duplicates too.
Making a repeated structure for your reviews and writing lingvreviiews increase your risk of triggering the spam filter.
If your hidden reviews have emojs then try removing them. But some of your public reviews do have emojs. So this can not be the only reason.
Best of luck
Morten
