My return to normal life after COVID

The background track today is this Adventures - A Himitsu

Only a few months ago, exactly on January 30, 2020, the first cases of the COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 pandemic are officially confirmed in Italy detected on 2 Chinese tourists on holiday in Rome. Subsequently, the spread of the virus throughout the state began with its epicenter in the regions of northern Italy, where the most numerous cases are found. The city of Bergamo in this period will be sadly remembered due the high death toll and the dramatic videos where army trucks are seen carrying a lot of coffins because of them the lack of space in the area cemeteries. The number of sick and dead people in such a short period is incredible and 2020 will be remembered forever in the history of humanity as the year of the “Coronavirus”.

For more than a month, in Italy, the government has declared “Phase 2” giving more freedom to the population and to the activities that are slowly returning to normal with the obligation to respect the “anti-covid” rules. Rules such as the use of the mask, the sanitation of public spaces and people, respect for distance social etc. they are at the base of phase 2 and avoid a possible second wave of infections. Since the beginning of phase 2, the life of the majority part of the Italians is returning to normal, including mine! This is not to say that the virus has disappeared and indeed in the world still
today the health emergency continues, especially in Latin American countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and PerĂą. We must not let our guard down, we must continue to follow the rules and have respect and to be in solidarity with those who are still fighting between life and death.
In fact, I hope this post can give hope to those who are currently suffering and do not see a way out.

Returning to normal, being able to leave the house again, being free again …

are all beautiful sensations that before we probably all took for granted. Review your relatives, your friends and even your land after a long time in which we were forced to stay at home it was fantastic but at the same time also strange because staying at home was becoming the normal.

We have been forced to put aside our commitments, work, relationships and put our lives on a “break” and with phase 2 from one day to the next we came back “free” and again with 1000 commitments and many things to do!

The first days I remember immediately noticing how many people and especially the activities rigorously respected the rules imposed by the government to prevent the spread of a new wave of the virus. In fact, each activity has a bottle of sanitizer at the entrance, people and employees wear a mask and respect the distance. Moreover gloves are used, many activities work only on reservation and with the entry of only one person at a time. I also noticed the happiness in the eyes of people in returning to their work and free, thus favoring an atmosphere of
serenity and kindness that was often missing before in the hectic everyday life.

One thing I particularly missed was not being able to go out to dinner, discover new restaurants and new products,
take pictures and be able to make a nice review. In fact I believe that since I started using google maps, I never have
experienced a period of inactivity of the application so long because of the pandemic and the total closure. Being able to review the screen
the points earned after a review has never been so good!

(P.S. Here you can find my first two reviews after quarantine)

Another point I stopped to reflect on was how today’s technology has helped everyone stay in touch.
Every day we exchanged messages with our friends, called someone, started a group video call with our relatives and we Local Guides had fun with our virtual meetups! All this would not have been possible in the past and thanks to technology this quarantine has been less difficult!

Hey guys @LuigiZ @DianaTuaty @RogerOhayashi @Jesi @anu7spice do you remember @AlexandreCampbell virtual Meetup? :clinking_glasses: :beers:

Of course it’s true, seeing the people who are part of our life through a screen is not the same thing as seeing them in person…
and in fact after the start of phase 2 here in Italy, it was great to be able to see again after months the people we love and be able to spending time together again, getting together (safely) and as in my case, sharing the passion for cars for example.

Finally, a theme that particularly affected the Italians, but especially us inhabitants of Sardinia , was the concern of not being able to enjoy the summer that month after month was approaching during the quarantine. For a Sardinian, who lives most of his life outdoors and in contact with nature, the
beautiful coasts and the beautiful sea around the island, it would have been a tragedy not to be able to go to the beach and enjoy the summer this year!
In fact, I confess that I brought down a few tears when I saw the sea after all those months at home.

Spiaggia del Rio Geremeas

But the important thing is that we are all slowly returning to normal, hoping to have learned something from this sad period without ever having lost hope that everything would be resolved sooner or later. Italy and Italians have never been more united than in this one period of worldwide suffering and was an example of strength, positivity and solidarity for the whole planet. I hope to succeed here in this post to transmit at least a minimum of this positivity to those who are still suffering or in difficulty today because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

And you? Are you still in quarantine? Or is your country coming out of quarantine? Let me know below in the comments!

Hi, my friend, @Matt95Bassett , I’m delighted to know that your life is returning to normal. It is a vital message of hope for us here in Brazil. I’m looking forward to doing the same. However, even after COVID, I’d like to keep connected to my friends from the Old Continent. A big hug, and let’s have a virtual hangout soon (or face-to-face, why not?).

Ciao!

Hey @Matt95Bassett ,

long time, very special long time and reading your post I’m also dropping a tear thinking back at what we have done :pensive: , our lives since February till now. It looks like we lived in a dream, life stopped and there is a black hole, but indeed gaining again liberty and possibility to live again it is a so sweet flavor and so much colorful in those days :rainbow: .

Of course I do remember, lot of fun :sunglasses: ! Those calls made those days shorter and brighter, that’s why my life sentence is to be always happy and to have always fun, wherever you are :dancer: !

Thank you for tagging me my friend, hope you are not getting too much sun now :joy: . Great post, enjoy it and #staystrong  .

So nice to read that life is starting up there again my friend, @Matt95Bassett !

And my god that pizza looks so delicious. (once I’ll come to Sardinia, and you need to show me all the good stuff  )

In Belgium, everything is open again since 2 weeks, except for clubs which will not open before September, as well no festivals or mass-gatherings not allowed to happen. But, as you know, some people try to take advantage of this and still organize mass-gatherings in secret anyway. Hope the second wave will stay away.

Anyway, stay safe and happy contributing again!!

@Stphn Hi brother, here too in Italy we are trying to keep the premises closed which must contain a large number of people in contact and we are trying to respect all the rules. Even schools and universities will remain closed until September and we still don’t know how to manage and organize the classrooms … Unfortunately, as you say, people or better, rotten apples, which do not follow the rules, are everywhere … but I must say that I have also seen many people comply with the rules and I did not expect it! Returning to freedom is truly a magnificent sensation, it is the most precious asset that we probably have together to be alive and healthy! Stay safe friend  :muscle:t3:  P.S. If one day you can come to Sardinia I will let you taste the best dishes and see the best beaches! Get ready to party every night! :champagne: :tada:  :beers: :clinking_glasses:

Hi, dear! @Matt95Bassett

I’m really happy for you and that you got to be back to normal life after this unexpected episode! I love that you’re exploring and enjoying your time outside!

Of course, I remember the epic virtual meetup! To spend a lovely time with friends helped me a lot to get through the beginning of this chaos.

I’m really looking forward for this to end so I can start exploring again, you have no idea how much I miss it. Here in Brazil the situation ain’t good, but hopefully it will all end soon (or at least I’ll believe in it).

Next time you go out, have a glass of wine for me! Cheers! :wine_glass:
