I used to live in Windsor, Ontario Canada which is separated from the USA by the Detroit river. My parents immigrated here from England many, many, many years ago.
As a sidenote, Did you Know Detroit is the only major U.S. city which is actually north of Canada. Everyone knows that Canada is North of the USA. well not Detroit.
I was a very young boy when I lived there but I do have three memories that stick out.
The photo is very old, the above photo is of My mother, brother and myself on the shores of the Detroit river in Windsor with Detroit as a Background.
I do remember the excitement of either driving over the Ambassador bridge or taking the tunnel under the river to the USA. Every summer we would visit Boblo Island, a now closed amusement park. We had to take a small version of a riverboat to get to the island and once there it was your typical amusement park with rides and food. The Riverboat seemed so much bigger in my memories.
Not in the best condition many years later.
A few times my parents would drive over the border to do some shopping, as some things would be much cheaper in the U.S.A. To avoid paying taxes and duty my parents would hide the goods under the back seat of the car and instruct my brother and I to pretend to be asleep when crossing the border. It worked every time.
My favourite memory was when my father took me to see a Detroit Tiger baseball game at the old Tiger stadium. I was the envy of all my friends. The Tigers were my favourite Professional Baseball team for many years until the Toronto Blue Jays were formed.
Since torn down and a newer Tiger Stadium built called Comerica Park.
These were my memories of Detroit Michigan, remember I was very young.
