Finally I wrote my CL20 application post.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve done as a LG? Improve Google Maps in my new neighborhood!
My first thought was I did a lot in my first active and conscious year as a Local Guide, but the question was “Interesting thing” so I went to my app, opened Maps and I start to look in my contributions, really, I did it. I’m not trying to be humble and I know I did many contributions in Maps but I needed something more, like a visual comprobation and I found it and I felt happy and proud.
In last November I moved out to a new home, a new neighborhood “Liniers” and after all the caos I put the house in order, my cats and myself settled in and then I start to discovered and walk through my new neighborhood.
I live about 3 or 4 blocks to a commercial center, streets and streets of different kind of business like an open-air mall, also there are some old fashioned galleries with different kind of stores.
Can you imagine my surprise when I was checking and one after another store were not on Maps?
Even more without a phone number, website or pictures, not even a single one photo. Those business weren’t new on the neighborhood just nobody put to them on Maps before. I know my new neighborhood is not a touristic área at all, but many people live here, people who have needs and if “they’re looking for something ( shoes, different kind of supplies, a salon, a kindergarten, a grocery) they need to find something” but would be difficult if those things aren’t on Maps, right?
So, I did my job, I added 25 business on Maps in just a few hours and I completed 45 in two weeks.
Those first 25 places received 63029 views till now, March 16.
I like the fact that 3 of those business with more views are:
*Ferretería ( Hardware Store)
*Ria, envios de dinero (Worldwide Financial Services)
*Parrilla (Grill Place)
Can you see it? Regular things that people are looking in their daily lives and now they can find these because I put those stores on Maps, is unbelievable.
In that day I wasn’t conscious about the impact of it but now looking the map and watching all of those red points meaning every new store I added there and I felt proud of myself. I helped all those people to find what they were looking for!
I love to travel, explore the world, meet new places and share in Maps with the community my whole experience, I like to uploaded many pictures, for example when I’m going on vacation I like to review and take photos of the hotel, the entrance, the room and my view from there, of course the breakfast too, do you know why? because is the same that I’ll be looking if I’m searching and planning my vacation using Google Maps. But going on vacation hopefully is only once or twice at year, looking for regular supplies are part of the daily lieve. For that my commitment with my city, my neighborhood.
Being a Local Guide the maps edition is what I enjoy most, this possibility to adding new stores fascinates me. As an user from almost the beginning I want to have the best Map that I can for me and for the whole world, and this possibility to contribute for it is just remarkable to me.
I will continue doing this the best that I can to fullfil my purpose because on Maps:
“If You’re Looking Something You Will Find Something”.
