My photos have been replaced with someone else's

I noticed that one of my reviews was taken down today, even though it was public a week ago.

I checked to see if it was because of my text review or my photos, so I searched for the place that I had reviewed. The photos that I uploaded were still there, but when I clicked on them, they showed something completely different from what I had captured. For example, it was supposed to show a beautiful cup of coconut water on the left, but instead, it showed an ugly place that I didn’t recognize and that replaced photo was also from 2017.

I’m wondering if this is a privacy policy violation since my original photos have been replaced with someone else’s.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, do you have any explanation?

Hi @GeneVox

The featured photos under a POI page get changed from time to time by the Google AI. This was happened to me also multiple times. After couple or more days my photo which was replaced got featured again.

What you described, I noticed several times, in a different context however:

When I go to the page showing all pictures of place (like your screen shot) Immediately after uploading a new photo and click on it on the left thumbnail, many times it shows a different picture, mostly distorted like in you screen shot. If I return to that page or sometimes only refresh the browse (Ctl-R) it will show my photo. I believe it is related to some outdated cache content - either in the browser or even on Google’s server.

Hi @GeneVox

Please clarify what you mean by your pics got replaced:

  1. Are you referring to your position in the order of photos under the pin?

  2. Are you saying that some of your photos now show as if they were uploaded by someone else?

Issue two can happen if someone downloads your photo and reuploads it to Google Maps and then flag your photo as a duplicate. This can be fixed.

Issue one is just how it works. Eventually, other photos will push our images down to keep the business looking fresh and exciting.

All the best

Hi @DibyayanC , thank you for the information.

@WilfriedB I tried updating or refreshing anything possible, but it stayed unchanged :disappointed:

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

In my case, I mean the issue two. What can I do to solve it and to avoid this happening again?

@GeneVox

Do you still have a backup of your original photo? On Google Photos maybe? This will help you. Make it shared with anyone with the link.

Your photo will be “older” and most likely have better resolution.

Find the stolen photo(s) on Google Maps and flag it for copyright violations. You will then need to answer a bunch of questions. Explain what happened and make sure to include both the deep link to the stolen image and your “original” image. Be super explicit on which one is which.

If you answer the questions correctly as the owner Google will take the copy down shortly (in 2-3 days).

Best of luck and let me know how it goes.

Cheers

  1. A week ago, I uploaded 5 photos to a place. They were all published.

  2. Today, when I search for that place and click on the 5 photos I uploaded, they show something different such as the view from unrecognised places, and they are even not my photos but someone else’s. Those strange photos were taken in 2017.

  3. I just checked the 5 photos I mentioned above again, and now they disappear.

I still have my original photos on my phone. But I have no idea what is really going on. Perhaps, the best thing I can do now is delete my review and write a new one using new photos.

I saw this problem these days with one photo but not mine. When I clicked on that photo it showed an unrelated 360 photo. I think it was a temporary glitch or maybe this happens when photos are in the filtration process.

Still needs to collect more clues in this case.

If you didn’t remove those photos, I suggest waiting some days. If you deleted them, I suggest uploading them again and checking the status after a few days.
