Two years ago, I remember looking up a local business in Google Maps and was surprised that the only photo shown was from Street View. I knew the business well and thought they really needed a photo showing how great their place was. So I took one and uploaded to Google Maps. I was really proud of myself.
A week later I was amazed at how many views the photo had had. Then I realised that so many of the business in my town had no or poor quality photos of their businesses.
And there it started. My quest to get great quality photos of the outside and inside of shops and business. My lunchtimes have seen me walk the main streets and take photos and correct and edit information. It’s amazing where some of the business’s markers are in relation to their actual store location.
Now, 4600+ photos and over 51 million views later, I’m still finding shops, taking photos, answering questions including accessibility information and making my Google Community greater and better. Just today, I went to an Indian Grocery Store and found it wasn’t even on Google Maps! That’s like the Golden Ticket for me. Photos taken - check. Information gathered - check. Uploaded to Google Maps - You bet!
I love what I do. I love getting accurate and correct information plus photos on Google Maps. It gets me out walking every day. It gets me out to explore my neighbourhood and community and meet store owners. I love people seeing my photos and reviews. And I’m working my way to level 9!
I don’t think I’ll ever run out of small business to find.
