The arroz brut is one of the most typical dishes in Mallorca. It´s a soup with rice, meat, veggies and spices, but the taste can vary so much depending on the ingredients, that as a arroz brut lover, I am committed to find the best arroz brut in Mallorca.

But, what makes so special about the Arroz Brut?
First of all, we should understand the meaning of “arroz brut”.
Dirty Rice.
Yes, I mean it. Dirty Rice.
It´s called like that because of the intensive and brownish color of the soup when already cooked.
There is not a specific list of ingredients for this recipe, because originally it was elaborated based on the hunting meat and veggies available on the season.
Therefore the list of ingredients are from chicken to pork, game, rabbit, snails, wild mushrooms, pepper, artichokes, peas, etc… And the spices are: saffron, cinnamon, black pepper, clove and nutmeg, and obviously the taste it will also depend on the % of each of them.
I can´t stand those arroz bruts that taste too much cinnamon and I love when I see snails on it!.
Every one has its own preference when talking about Arroz Brut, but i as an expert in this topic and your local guide… you should trust me!
If you come to Mallorca, you should never leave it without testing arroz brut. And if you do so, I recommend you to have it for lunch. Never for dinner, your schomach will appreciate it!.
