My new big family - the local guides #CommunityLoveChallenge

2020 has been a very special year for most of us. As for me, I’ll always remember this year, for the bad thing but also, because great things happened.

March – the beginning of the big change

Like many other local guides, March was supposed to be the month dedicated to my Connect Live application. I’ve been part of the unofficial Local guide Facebook group for a year as a moderator and I’ve learned to recognize some familiar faces. Though, let’s face it, I was always so busy that I was looking at that community from far away, thinking about how “tomorrow”, I would get myself involved more.

BAM! Locked down happened. From now on, the only word everyone was talking about was COVID-19. I was now stuck at home with my kids, without a real social circle. It was really stressful and I had no one around me to share it.

Connect saved my life and my Sanity

That’s where you are all coming into action. Every day, I would find myself on connect, reading your post and even writing some. You were there to support me when I had to go work in the red zone, giving me strength and courage to continue my work. During these difficult times, Connect was the highlight of my day. I would sit in front of my computer, wondering what stories I could share with you or finding posts written by my new friends. I even had the chance to be featured on social media because of my post on Connect!

Online meet-up upped the game

I can still remember my first online meet-up. I was invited by @KarenVChin to the Ice-cream lover meet-up. I have to say that I was a bit intimidated because there were so many great local guides during this gathering. But Karen was a great host at making everyone comfortable and I enjoyed the intimate feels of her event.

Shortly after, I’ve met the French local guides community. I was immediately at ease with them. Every time there was an event with @Julien44 , @christophesubilia and @DinaMardiana it was as if I was catching up with old friends.

My summer was punctuated with regular meet-ups. They would always cheer me up. And I was able to get to know more some new friends like @Kwiksatik and @Denise_Barlock with their wonderful states challenge. It was so fun. I went further out of my shell by co-hosting the New York State challenge with them. And it was really fun!

2020, what was it about?

Was 2020 so bad? Well, it did have some depressing times, but overall, it was a good year for me. I’m really grateful for everything that happened during this year and especially, to have the chance to be part of such a great community. Next year will be even better because you’ll already be part of my life!

I want to start by saying that I really enjoyed reading your post, @Melissa_Langlois and it resonated powerfully with me. Yes, getting through 2020 was the most difficult thing in my life so far, and I continue fighting back because of the support and love that I received from my family, friends and the Local Guides community. Reading people’s stories, and how they stayed positive throughout everything, gave me hope. Watching the community grow, even more united was and still is something that warms my heart. I’ve learned so much about the world and myself this year, which wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t for the Connect family. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to you and everyone here for making my 2020 great, and I’m looking forward to what 2021 will bring.

How are you doing @Melissa_Langlois ?? Thanks for tagging me in your post! :grinning:

You were awesome at my virtual meet-up. You fit perfectly with us at my VIRTUAL: Show & Tell Local Guides Ice Cream Lovers Meet-up. Very happy to read that you have attended more meet-ups since mine. Found and made good friends with @Julien44 @christophesubilia @Kwiksatik and @Denise_Barlock .

We were all fascinated by your homemade Kale Blueberry ice cream! What does kale ice cream taste like??? was what we all wanted to know!

So happy to know you have found a home and friends here on Connect. It is a special place where you can meet and get to know Local Guides from every corner of the world if you truly give it a try. So much to learn from each other that if you are lucky enough you can find good friends online with the chance to meet them in person via Connect Live or a local Local Guides in-person meet-up (Hopefully, again in 2021).

Melissa, Happy Holidays to you and your family! Hoping and praying for a better 2021 for all of us!

Cheers,

Karen

Hi @Melissa_Langlois , first of all, my sincere gratitude for working in the healthcare sector. Because of people like you, we can smile at the end. Congratulations on being featured by Google Social Media for your post. I loved your post how nicely you have explained how our life changed almost overnight due to this pandemic. Thanks for sharing your story. One day I hope to meet you at some part of the world and when I do that, I would like to give you a big hug. I hope by that time the covid will be vanished and we will not have to maintain the social distancing anymore.

@Velvel Thank you for your nice comment. I very much like my new community here and I couldn’t be happier that Connect crossed my path this year. As for the blueberry and kale ice cream, it tastes sweet even though there’s a vegetable in it. And I’ve already made the post here on connect, so maybe one day, you’ll be able to try the recipe

@SoniaK Thank you so much! I hope too that I’ll get the chance to meet you some day, so I can hug you back for being so nice
