My Neighborhood Berlin-Wedding and why I share this

Hello Everyone,

today I want to tell you about my neighbourhood and why I started to contribute.

When I came to Berlin in 2011 I did not know that much about this city. I even did not know anyone here.

Intro:

So I started to explore the city part I moved to (called Wedding) by foot and bicycle. Google Maps was really helpful to keep the orientation but also

to see reviews about places. At this point, I want to thank all who write reviews.

When I was more familiar with my neighbourhood I started writing reviews and making lists of interesting places. The main focus was on food and drinking places because in there it’s easy to chat up people. I hope this will help anyone who is in that situation I was in.

The Neighborhood:

Wedding with a population of around 84000 is a multicultural place where every third one is a foreigner and every second one has non-German roots.

This fact makes it divers in many ways. You can find here restaurants and bars with cuisines from the whole world.

It is located in the district of Mitte (Central district) and easily accessible by public transport:

Metro Lines:

  • U6
  • U8
  • U9

S-Bahn (Overground Train):

  • S41
  • S42

Tram:

  • M13
  • 50

Another important aspect why I love to live here is that this area is green. Most streets are avenues.

There are big parks, a lake where you can swim and a river.

The biggest parks are:

Within this park, there is an open-air cinema and a beer garden.

Swimming Lake: Plötzensee

The lake is directly connected to the Volkspark Rehberge and the Goethepark. You can also rent boats here.

From there you can walk down the riverside to Nordufer. This route is perfect for running.

  • Riverside and Nordufer

Architecture:

There are still old houses left, that survived the second world war.

Food and Drinks;

Now we are in my favourite part: food. I want to show you a couple of my favourite places.

Misc:

There is way more good food around. If you are interested in see my list (Comments about wheelchair accessibility included).

Street Art:

Art is an important part of Berlin here are a few examples in my neighbourhood.

I hope you liked this post. Feel free to contact me if you want to explore together.

Hey, @cBerlin this is a really cool info about Wedding! I lived there some time ago and recognize several locations. I would add also another cool restaurant named "65" (fünf und sechzig) - near the river. I also remember going a little bit further to airport where you can see airplanes descending very close to the streets (the Tegel Airport which is going to be closed soon). They have a funny window in the wall for people who want to see the runway (L’andebahn).

Unfortunately I do not have the photo now, but it’s just a hole in the wall separating the landing runway from the traffic road.
