In 2017, I got into a car with a friend and her colleagues and we traveled 313 km (194 miles) away to Benin City It was the first time for all of us, and it took 5 hours to arrive at our destination.
We were there for work.
Locating our hotel (The Urban Oasis Hotel) from the description the client (bride) sent was impossible. We entered the name into GoogleMap and we got there in flash, which was a sort of undoing. The bride was astonished and asked how we did it as every other person gets lost around Benin Town locating their hotels.
About two hours after settling in our rooms, a number of people coming into Benin town started calling to ask for directions. The bride posted our number to the entire out of state guest-list requiring directions
.
Google Maps saved the day (and our event planning business brand) as we were able to direct all the guests to their hotels, while we were strangers in the town.
This was my first and intense use of Google Maps, and it wasn’t for me directly, but for others. I was able to provide guidance and directions to people, while I was a stranger in a new location.
And we had a great wedding.
