My love affair with Google Maps

I am always running late. I am always in a hurry. My friends call me “Ms. Last-In-First-Out” or “last-minute.com”. Let me set the context. I was born on 31st of December.

And as someone who’s always in a hurry, my life has been enriched with the addition of Google Maps. It is literally my best friend when I get into a vehicle and am perplexed about the best and fastest route to my destination. Google Maps gets me to my destination with ease and in the fastest possible way. I like that Google can advise and even proffer options for my commute. Google is almost always saying “Relax, we gat this”.

Google Maps always advises me about when to leave my house for work. It even predicts what my commute will look like and when I can expect to get to my destination.

I live and work in Lagos, which can be easily dubbed the “city of traffic”. And there’s no better companion for a driver in lagos than Google Maps, especially the driver that’s always running late.

I like to hangout with friends and we like to check new places within my city. We are always looking for the new spots for food, drinks, movies or plays and even to shop. And who better to advise us of how to get to these destinations? Google Maps always gets the job done and in good time.

Another hobby of mine is travel. And once I get to a new location and connect to the WiFi, I have my Google Maps companion right with me. Google Maps will advise of the best and fastest route to a destination, recommend some options along the route, help with the decision of whether to dine out or eat in, and even similar options in your neighborhood.

So, when I want to go out, I check Google maps to find out what my commute will be like, places where there might be some traffic and when I can expect to arrive. Sometimes I can almost Google Maps say - “Baa damuwa” or “Maa fo’ya”.

I’ve gotten so accustomed to using Google Maps that I can’t imagine what life and commuting was like before, without it.
