Hi all, my name is Dennis Rufi and I am a software engineer by profession and currently a level 5 local guide. So what local guide means to me. So for this answer let’s go back to one and a half years ago when I graduated in Computer Sciences and I was actively looking for a Job. Being a fresh graduate I applied to a lot of companies and in this context, I gave a lot of interviews. I was not really aware of many places but then google maps came into rescue. I visited many areas far away from my home so that I can reach the office and give the interview, so google maps helped me a lot. So this Local guide is something which is much closer to my heart.
Many locations, reviews, and photos helped me to reach my destination. So after getting help from maps, I decided to contribute towards it. I contributed before as well but after this, I started contributing to google maps on a regular basis. I gave reviews, rated places, and posted photos to help others as I was helped in my time of need. So Local guides are wonderful.
So recently I went on a road trip with my colleagues. Since I love traveling so this trip was very special to me. I live in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan. We toured Karachi to Thatta, an old city in the regional area. We started from Karachi, our first stop was Bhambhore, an old city dating back to 1 century BC, followed by Makli Graveyard, where more than half a million tombs and graves are spread over an area of about six square miles which makes Makli one of the greatest Necropolis in the world.
This was followed by ShahJehan Mosque, a Jama Mosque which was built by the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. This beautiful mosque has the capacity to accommodate about 20,000 worshipers. Our last stop was Keenjhar Lake where we did boating and also visited Noori Jam Tamachi’s shrine which is in the middle of the lake. The entire journey was amazing.
I am sharing my experience so that other local guides can also visit these places.
I try my level best to contribute to google maps. I feel happy when my photos are viewed by many people. Local Guide Program will be a great opportunity for me to learn from other fellow local guides, make new friends. I believe that together we can help small businesses and many other people.
