My name is Varvara, I am from Yekaterinburg, Russia (the Ural region). This is my first post here and I am happy to share why I am proud to be a Local Guide!
I am sure everyone loves travelling: travelling for experience, travelling for memories, travelling for things. You can buy a special tour to Greece to get a fur coat or you can go on bus tour, they call it “alcotour”, from Saint Petersburg to Finland (where you drink alcohol all the trip to and back- the bus doesn’t even have soft seats so people wouldn’t smear them). And here I am, passionate about food, dreaming of something like “Food tour”.
Just imagine, you buy a tour to Georgia and visit not just the places with magnificent mountain view but also the places with delicious traditional food like khachapuri, khinkali or kharcho and famous Georgian vine.
However, if you go to a place you do not know, there is a chance to fall for advertising campaigns and visit only the best-known places.
I, as an obsessed one, can 100% say there are many tiny family places, which serve the best meals ever!
But, how would people find such places without advertising?
The answer is other people, people who know exactly where and what to eat in their local diners!
I, the Local Guide, care about this… My little mission is to review the restaurants, cafes, bars and diners not only in my city or in my country.
I love sharing food pics and give objective opinion about meals and drinks.
Google Maps and Local Guides made it easy to choose the best place to eat even in the middle of nowhere.
I feel like I became a part of something big that helps people.
