My journey as a Local Guide from Kerala

Kerala, also known as “God’s own Country”, is one of the most important states in India. A state with 100% literacy rate and also one of the fastest growing economies. There are lots of businesses that exist in Kerala that are either not listed or have some important information missing in Google Maps. Only recently people started signing up as Local Guides and uploading relevant information.

I started my journey as a local guide by answering simple questions about the various places I have visited and also editing relevant information about them. And gradually, I started uploading photos and giving ratings. Then I started getting these notifications that my photos were getting lots of views and some businesses replied to my rating asking for a review and it got me thinking, “My reviews does matter!”. So, I started writing detailed reviews for these places so that people would know about a place beforehand and plan their trip accordingly and businesses can improve their services based on these reviews. I do update my reviews if a place has improved.

The occasional mails from google showing the latest statistics helped me stay motivated and to contribute more often. I’m an engineering student, and try to keep a consistent number of contributions without affecting my college life. I’m now a Level 7 Local Guide and I love sharing all the details I know about a place and it gives me a great level of satisfaction that it would help lots of of navigators and make an impact on Google Maps.
