Living in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja comes with many challenges with housing on the top of the list. securing a decent accommodation here costs quite much. House rents could cost from two million naira for a two bedroom apartment annually and even more as the prices varies from district to another within the city. And just a little fraction of the population residing here can afford to pay that much. Some of the few who live in such apartments / districts find it difficult to renew such rents at their expiration. And the cost of outright purchase is outrageous.
As a result of this, a good population of the people working in the capital city are left with no other option than to live in the suburbs which are scattered all over the outskirts of most major districts where they can get affordable accommodation. But these suburbs have one thing in common as they are characterized by lack of basic infrastructures typical of an urban dwelling.
Though mortgages are available, they are not easily accessible to persons who are not in paid employment. Therefore, some housing vendors and developers have taken up the responsibility of bridging these gap and lessening the burdens by securing lands, obtaining the relevant government approvals, fencing and gating them, and selling plots to individuals who would then build with an approved plan. These developers also provide infrastructures within the estate and subsequently services them hence my sites and services map list.
This being a major subject of concern in Abuja, my interest among others is to identify such sites to help people who are seeking to own an affordable decent accomodation.
