My House Boat Experience at Dal Lake-Srinagar

Experiencing a stay in this houseboat in the Dal Lake, Srinagar was a mesmerizing experience. It is a common site to see many houseboats on the Dal Lake. Our first impression when we reached the boat house was very quiet and serene. We were transferred to the houseboat by a small boat ride (In local language, Shikara). During the winter season when the winds are too strong instead of Shikara a back entry from the roadside is used. I went with a group of friends and booked this houseboat for one night. The houseboat was beautifully furnished in the traditional style with the Kashmiri art, handmade artifacts, and craft. The use of traditional furnishings and handmade artifacts gives the houseboat a unique and authentic feel. The house boat accommodation also provided the facilities such as laundry services, room service and an attendant was available round the clock.

All the rooms were well maintained, beautifully crafted, and had a heater, cooler and pedestal fan. The tiles used in the bathroom were of high quality with good quality toiletries to make the visitors stay pleasant. Each houseboat has a dining room, sitting room and outdoor deck.

We spent a lot of time on the outer deck gazing at the beautiful mountains and shikaras passing by. The views of the surrounding mountains and the activity on the lake with vendors selling their goods from small boats and children traveling to school on boats added to the overall charm of the experience.

The meals were home cooked and provided a good option for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests. Breakfast and dinner were served on time. If you want to plan for lunch, then better to head out or order for snacks at the houseboat. The entire stay on the houseboat was an enticing way to enjoy the beauty of the area and see it from a different perspective.
