To get thing separated, here we go. I will first sum up what happened so far
(1) My first sentence on this issue
For example, the bus stop next to our house has got a wrong position, I suggested several times to fix it - no chance. Even though you can clearly see the roof of this bus stop’s rain shelter in satellite image … And if you can’t see it at its correct position, you can at least clearly see that it isn’t located at its current, wrong position.
Busstops are not normal pins. They are most often put in place by the public transportation authority. As a consequence all edits suggested by Local Guides to bus stops will automatically and immediately be rejected since Google trusts the transportation authority more than us volunteers. (…)
You could reach out to the transportation authority and suggest the move it.
(3) I did this: Contact the transportation authority
Sometimes it can take time and effort to find the responsible person. But once you reach the right person he/she can make the changes visible on Google Maps with very short notice.
To better understand the answer by @MortenCopenhagen , please let me add a note:
Google Transit is a specific layer in Google Maps, where the transportation companies can partner with Google providing updated information about transportation.
I contacted the transportation authority (www.vgn.de ) for the whole area of greater Nuremberg which measures 100+ kms in diameter.
Btw this ist the website connected on the relevant bus stop’s maps entry, so it was obvious to seek contact right there
They told me ‘it’s partly correct what I said’ but they need to rely on information from local authorities and so they forwarded my message to a municipal authority (responsible for power, fresh water, sewerage, … and local busses) in my hometown.
Great, @fuzzi_68 , I am happy that you received a feedback.
It would be helpful if you tag the person you are talking to by using @ and selecting the name from the pop-up window (or typing it, if the name is not in the list). Active member are following a lot of conversations, and they can miss it if you don’t tag them
@MortenCopenhagen - I also tried to edit the location (once again) myself. You wrote earlier, that edits by local guides would be rejected immediately. I did the edit yesterday and it’s still ‘pending’, so at least it doesn’t happen immediately - but so far, it did happen every time I tried.
Funny thing, Our local pizza restaurant is closed for over three weeks due to vacation and set to reopen on friday (two days from now). Therfore I tried to set it to ‘temporarily closed’ sending a picture showing a note concerning this vacation which was put over the menu outside the house. It happened exactly as I expected: Pending for weeks, then set to ‘not applied’ today (even though there are still two days of closure left). OK, but that’s yet another story about ‘Google maps having a propensity to reject edits for no apparent reason’ as @Hope mentioned in his posting about road additions
Regarding opening hours I find it more effective to reach out to the pizzaria owners and explain how they after verification easily can specify special opening hours to the benefit of their customers.
@MortenCopenhagen I am afraid the pizzeria owner is ‘at home’ somewhere nowhere in Italy and it is more or less impossible and/or pointless to reach him - he also doesn’t maintain his maps entry (‘claim this business’ is still shown on maps). Anyhow, that’s not the subject here. I only reported it since the whole story started with the ‘propensity to reject edits’ @Hope had mentioned earlier and this is yet another proof that he is right (and I completely endorse this view of his).
An old friend of mine and me, we would have planned to take a pizza there during my stay at home, but the re-opening is too late for us so I will check a recipe for oven potatoes I found on chefkoch.de or a similar page along with Nuremberg sausages.
And he needs to take it - or starve / be content with beer
I received an answer yesterday, unluckily it was only partly satisfying
The lady wrote, that Maps is a public platform anyone can contribute and suggest edits (OK so far we all know). Thus she cannot guarantee for correctness.
I sent an answer saying this isn’t the complete story, since there can be ‘owners’ to maps entries and I was told that the traffic authority was the owner of a bus stop entry, or, at least, the traffic authority would be the trusted source of information for Google, rather than individuals (the things I learned here).
So I will keep you updated if there are any news on this.
