My Google Local guide account couldn't receive more points when I uploaded things

Hello everyone,

It was starting about two days ago, my Google Local Guide account has been acting up when I upload a photo, a video or write a review… I can’t get any points.

I know that level 10 is the highest level, but wouldn’t I normally get more points?
Is it because the system doesn’t provide extra points for level 10 local guide anymore? Or there is a system problem, so it does not provide points?

Here is a screenshot of what the system showed when I uploaded it. It only shows “Thanks for adding” or “Thanks for sharing”.

It is not for the Level 10 accounts. I am facing the same issues with my account too.

Can anyone help to resolve this issue ?

It is good to know it is not only happened to me or Level 10 account, so it seems to be some technical issues.

In recent days the reward points that you get after posting a review or contribution on the Google maps is not getting added to the account.

After completing the submission (review, photo, video, questions) I am getting a simple message “Thank you for contributing”. Where we used to get the point details .

Is someone else having this issue? Please let me know how to resolve this.

Hi @EvanKuo , @Abhijith_pr

Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect”. This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.

Regarding your question, the message that you are showing and the number of points related to your contributions are not necessarily related.

The only way to see if points are added is to check the points in your profile before and after adding a photo or a review. The points for photos and reviews are updated immediately, independently of the message you receive. Points for edits are usually updated 24 hours after and edit has been approved.

So do not rely on the “thank you” Pop up for the addition of the point

@Abhijith_pr , I want to inform you that, as your post is about the same subject, to keep Connect organised I am merging it on this thread,

Do you have a doubt about how to do something? The Help desk is here for you, with a long list of post with detailed indications on how to post.

Which kind of contents we share in the community? What are Connect topics? will give you an explanation

Hello Ermes,

Thanks for the reply, I know that points are usually updated after 24 hours, but it’s been at least three days and my points haven’t changed at all, even though I’ve uploaded quite a few things.

Regarding your comment about the message you receive after uploading not being related to points, I have reservations about that because I’m a level 10 local guide, so I think I’m well aware that every time I’ve uploaded a photo, video, or comment before, it immediately shows me the number of points I’m likely to receive for that upload, and I’m sure that’s what other users have seen before as well.

I just want to emphasize that whether this is due to a new change in the system or this issue only affects some users, it should be reviewed and confirmed by the relevant team.

As @EvanKuo mentioned on the reply, We used to see the points right after submitting the contribution along with the ‘pop up’.

Hello @EvanKuo ,

You do get such pop up about ‘Thanks for adding’ and points do not reflect there.

Whereas in the background for uploaded photos it gets added to your account. Please check in Chrome Incognito browser without your login credentials and see the points, you shall be able to find the differences.

However, for uploaded videos, now a days it takes some time and once it is validated by AI then only your points get added.

I have also faced the similar situation but able to see the added points through the above method and later it reflects in the normal (logged in ) Google Maps profile as well.

Please share your experience of it works.

Hi @EvanKuo

In addition to the perfect reply from @ErmesT I would like to add the following:

Please see this post What happened to my points? that I wrote together with ErmesT. It explains the typical delays in our contributions getting counted and updated.

If you look only at the points total there will be some delays. Sometimes there can be a week or more between each recount of your points total (and photo views total).

Cheers
Morten

Hello Kumaarsantosh,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I did tried in different way to chcek my points, but unfortunately it is the same as I see when I logged in my Google maps account.

That’s why I posted this issue here, cause it just happened recently, so that’s the reason I would like to know if someone also is experiencing this issue now. I believe that I did what I can do to check in different way already.

Hello Morten,

Thank you for sharing the post with us. I already checked the post, but I do not think it really works on our case. Cause we did tried with all the tricks, but it didn’t work on me. But thank you for sharing the post.

Well, I am a level 10 too, @EvanKuo , and yes, I have seen that message several times in the last years (not in the last few days) but always the points were updated:

  • Immediately, if related to photos, reviews, ratings, answers, Q&A
  • 24 hours after the approval, if related to edits
  • 3-4 days after the approval, if related to added roads, but this one doesn’t seem to be your case, because you don’t have any approved road.

As mentioned by @MortenCopenhagen we made a deep check about the matter, by verifying our points before and after the different types of submission. Only after checking we wrote the already mentioned post.

But if you need a feedback from the team I am tagging here for you @DeniGu for an official answer

I also want to inform you that, while checking your account to better answer to your question, I’ve noticed several violation in your photo submissions, especially related to redundancy (a series of very similar photos of the same subject), duplicates (same photo added more than one time) and also some duplicate across locations (same photo added in more than one place).

This kind of contributions are against the rules, and can put your account in trouble. My suggestion for you is to remove the redundant photos and all the duplicates, to comply with the Community policy :

  • *“*Dark, blurry, and redundant photos will be removed. Learn more about our policy on stylistic adjustments.”
  • Users who duplicate photos across locations or post images that infringe on copyrights will be removed from the program. Learn more about our policies on repetitive and illegal content.

if you need more details please let me know

Hello Ermes,

I appreciate your feedback. It seems there’s a prevalent issue of fake reviews on Google, which they may not be addressing adequately. This includes not only reviews but also fabricated photos, which clearly violates Google Maps policies. Despite multiple reports, I’ve observed that over 90% of these fraudulent entries remain. It’s disheartening when it’s evident to users that something is amiss. Before urging users to be vigilant in their contributions, it’s crucial that Google addresses the root of this problem and takes action against fraudulent content.

I believe it’s crucial to address the specific concerns raised by users rather than diverting the focus towards other potential oversights or areas for improvement. Each issue should be tackled on its own merits, as they pertain to different topics. Providing assistance for the user-raised issues should be the primary focus.

There is a deep concern on fake reviews, @EvanKuo , as you may see if you just spend a few minutes in Connect, and we are addressing every potential issues almost every day.

I gave you a full answer to your question on my previous reply, but on the meantime I also want to inform a Local Guide when his contributions are putting his account at risk. The idea is not “diverting” a conversation, as I said I gave you a detailed answer already, but simply to avoid that a good contributor put his account at risk for not intentional violations of the policies. The fact that others violate the policies do not justify a policy violation by us, hope you will agree in this. There is not a “Before” and a “After”. As a moderator of this community I like to inform the users when there is a potential risk in their account due to a violation of the policies. Of course what you choose to do after that is your own choice.

In any case feel free to DM me if you see issues that are not properly addressed. I will do my best to escalate them to the team

I appreciate your efforts to provide advice, though I want to assure you that I’m well-versed in the community guidelines. While you have the right to report content that you find inappropriate, I’m confident that my contributions align with the stated guidelines. If you have a different standard personally, I respect that.

In my experience, I’ve always been mindful of placing images correctly and have actually assisted in reporting misplaced images. Regrettably, many of my requests haven’t been addressed.

Let’s try our best to build a welcoming and supportive community, rather than one where people feel patronized. Creating an atmosphere of fear doesn’t help anyone.

Hi @EvanKuo and @Abhijith_pr ,

Thank you for reaching out.

We would suggest giving it a few more days to see if the points are updated on your Google Maps profile. If not, please let us know and we will investigate further.
