Coffee is one of the basic needs of our modern world. Some people drink coffee to wake up, while others drink it as a social habit while chatting with friends. My passion about coffee is finding my Golden Cortado. Cortado is, according to Wikipedia, a beverage consisting of espresso mixed with a smaller ratio of steamed milk, half in half, to reduce its acidity. The term Golden Cortado originates from finding the perfect cortado, which is as valuable as gold.
In the era of discoveries, when Spaniards were discovering South America, they stumbled upon coffee and loved it. In fact, they had intended to carry coffee back to Spain. According to the legend, Spaniards’ chests were filled with precious gold on their way back; eventually, while being transported, coffee beans got mixed with gold and resulted in Cortado, which constituted coffee beans containing gold powder. Consequently, the coffee was named “Golden Cortado”. Today, it is not possible to find Cortado that contains gold powder;however, the terminology is still used referring to finding the perfect taste of coffee.
I am in the journey to find my perfect Cortado which is my Golden Cortado. I try to taste cortados of all Istanbul’s coffee roasteries while noting down how I feel about and think of the taste of each. This is why I am passionate about sharing on Google Maps and i have become a local guide.
