@Kristen local guides are more of a community instead of a âtraditionalâ social network. A while a go the âfollowâ feature was introduced that allows users of Google Maps to follow specific local guides. That could then be called being a bit of an influencer 
But this does not mean that you can then reach out to your followers and send them messages or so. The only effect is that they will see e.g. your reviews prominently when they visit a place where you wrote a review.
