My First Ribfest

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the local Ribfest in Ajax Ontario.

This was my first visit to a ribfest but I was so impressed it won’t be my last.I didn’t know what to expect so here goes. They held it at a local horse race track and parking was in a nearby farmers field. When I first entered they had ongoing singers and performers all day.

There were numerous vendor stalls selling their wares.

Perhaps you wanted to try and climb the rock wall for the cash at the top, I never saw anyone do it. Or maybe the kids wanted some face painting.

The kids and adults alike really enjoyed the small midway.

Besides the ribs which I am coming to, there were other kinds of food to try, like Canada’s famous Beaver Tails and many more.

Let’s get to the star of the show The ribs.

As I mentioned, these RibFest sellers came from all over. They loved to show off all the trophies they had won at RibFest’s.

This was just a few of them

The lines up for the ribs were crazy but I will go to one of these again. I really enjoyed this

Thanks for sharing your photos from the Rib Fest, @TerryPG .

As a devoted vegetarian, this is not an event I would normally seek out

But looking at your clicks I got wonderful flash backs to visiting the California State Fair in Sacramento when our kids were small and super cute.

All the best

Morten

PS I know Canada is not the US, but seen from this side of the pond the differences are not super obvious.

PPS You could select Large for all pics to make them show better on desktops.

You’re definitely talking my language with this post @TerryPG

I’ve never met a Ribfest that I didn’t like!

I have to ask - What is a Canadian "Beaver Tail? I’d imagine something flat, wide and deep fried, being at a festival? I am always up for a funnel cake, though… Extra powdered sugar :star_struck:

I’m impressed to see vendors from so far away, New Mexico is quite the drive to Ontario! Which rib purveyor did you indulge in and where’s the BBQ photos? :person_shrugging:t4::male_sign:

I have to agree with @MortenCopenhagen that this looks like a scene from any given day in the Midwest of USA @TerryPG .

I’m a sucker for BBQ, and these kind of events are the best for seeing how differently each chef can create, essentially, the same dish.

Which line did you wait out, and did you go for sweet or spicy? And, did you get on the spinning strawberry?

@Mikeinthefalls That beaver tail sure looks like some kind of Canadian Churro to me  . I’d probably not have room for BBQ if I came across that first.

Because I think this post needs some Q, here is a photo of the most recent ribs I made!

These are from November of 2022. My mom doesn’t like BBQ ( :open_mouth: ) so that’s why some are plain.

@MortenCopenhagen doesn’t know what he’s missing out on, whatcha think @TerryPG @JustJake

I’m pretty sure that I’m a fan of beaver, but a sweet Canadian churro could be darn good! There’s ALWAYS room :metal:t4: You’d just have to make it an all day event @JustJake

Beaver Tails are deep-fried dough pastries that are stretched to resemble the shape of a beaver’s tail. So don’t worry, no part of actual beavers are used! It is topped with either sweet or savory ingredients, but the classic Beaver Tail is dipped in a combination of cinnamon and sugar.

Enough sugar and cinnamon makes anything amazing, even a stretched and fried beaver! @TerryPG

I think a few rounds on the strawberries ride would help make room for more @Mikeinthefalls

Seriously, @Mikeinthefalls , you cook, too? What can’t you do?!

I cannot play the guitar. I think my fingers are too big? But, that’s all I got. :sunglasses:

@TerryPG Those beaver tails sound similar to an American fair classic - The elephant ear.
