I live in Lagos, Nigeria. I have lived here since 2001 when I was a young, inexperienced woman trying to chart a career course for myself. Lagos is a very large, chaotic, fast-paced city, and for a greenhorn coming from a small city, it can be very intimidating. And to exacerbate the intimidation are impatient and sometimes rude customer service personnel, a hallmark of life in this city.
Over time as work and leisure took me to different parts of Lagos, I found that a warm reception and excellent (customer) service by any establishment helped to put me at ease and gave me the courage to explore other parts of the city and other businesses. So, my favourite thing to share as a local guide is excellent customer service.
Some of the best places to gauge customer service are hotels, restaurants and leisure centers (arcades, cinemas, museums, galleries, etc.). This is because people are usually anxious about service offerings in these places but would rather have a word-of- mouth testimony than a first-hand experience. Also, these establishments offer multi-layered experiences that cater to different types of people so a review or share would help a wider group.
If I had the Google Guide resource when I had just first moved to this city, I have no doubt things would have been so much easier for me. Now, however, I hope I can offer that assistance to other young people - and even older people- seeking to make informed choices.
an informed choice.
