I haven’t had to think about it until now. I haven’t had to figure out which of my contributions on Google Maps are my favourite. When I visit a place of interest (work or recreation) I do enjoy leaving reviews to help others make informed prior-to-visit decisions. But that is not what I enjoy most about contributing to the community.
I also enjoy helping out with “facts finding” to make information obtained on the platform more reliable. That also is not what I enjoy most about contributing to the community.
One of my proudest Google Maps moments must have been during the Christmas holidays in 2015 when I took my girlfriend to a not so popular natural water fall on the outskirts of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria a community called Assop. In planning the surprise visit, and seeking to figure out the expected time of travel, I entered ASSOP FALLS in the Google Maps search bar and hit enter. It did not exist on the map.
I would have sworn that Assop Falls was more popular than that, that tourists would have visited and long generated enough content to make Assop Falls a feature on the app. But alas, it was not there.
Well, I thought to myself, all hope is not lost, this is my opportunity to discover a totally new destination on the app. That became an added goal to the original goal of building another memorable experience with my girlfriend to make her happy.
Long story short, while there, I added a missing place and got feedback that my addition was going to be verified. I was proud to say the least at that moment. I cannot recall ever getting a feedback on that one even though Assop falls now exists on the map.
What I enjoy most is sharing creative photos (I hope), moments of interest as I see them of the places and experiences I have been to and enjoyed. I also often take less creative photos out of duty of sorts to put information out on the map to help others.
I look forward to taking photos in a totally new environment far away from my familiar places in November, 2019. I look forward to meeting, learning, exploring and sharing my insights and views in November 2019 of the places I would be visiting.
I look forward to Connect Live 2019!!!
