Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, when I can indulge myself. There are many breakfast places where I live. These are my five preferred ones:
- Chai Gully- Chai (tea) is the most common breakfast beverage throughout India. There are many different kinds of tea and coffee available here with sumptuous vegetarian North Indian food and snacks, pancakes, sandwiches and some Italian food like pastas, paninis, pizzas, risottos etc. Their Rajasthani chai with elachi (cardamom) and kesar (saffron) is my favourite. I love the Chole Kulche here for breakfast.
- Refresh- Opens early and has a range of continental breakfast options like mushroom omelettes, pancakes and a classic eggs with chicken sausages, mashed potatoes and baked beans. They have breakfast and meal combos too. I really like their ginger coffee. Open all day, it has burgers, noodles, fried rice, momos (dumplings), rolls (wraps) and even biryani (mixed rice) on the menu.
- Chatpatlal- Delicious parathas (flatbreads) made with ghee (clarified butter) and different stuffings of paneer (cottage cheese), gobi (cauliflower), aloo (potatoes), payaz (onions) and even cheese. This is served either with a potato sabzi (curry) on the side or dahi (yoghurt).
- Ganesh Bhavan- Like all vegetarian South Indian eateries, has standard, simple yet tasty breakfast (called tiffin). I love their sambar (lentil based vegetable soup with tamarind). It’s different from the other kind popular here, which is a bit sweet. Also has a mini thali (platter) for breakfast with a mini dosa, upma, pongal and other items.
- Ekanaya- The new kid on the block, this place opened 2 months ago and has healthy options like sprouts for breakfast. Apart from the regular poha (flattened rice with peanuts, vegetables and spices) and puri sabzi they also do non veg chicken and egg parathas. It has a multi cuisine menu as well and with a variety of stuff like tandooris (cooked in a clay oven) and continental dishes etc.
