My favorite thing as a Local Guide

So obviously there are many great things about sharing our experiences as a local guide. But what is your favorite thing to share? For me, I love going back to those places from when I was a child or teenager and reexperiencing them now. You know those places that may not be all that fancy, or well-run even, but they have survived the test of time because they do something so well, it just cannot be replicated. It is usually a food place, and it is usually one or two dishes that are so ingrained in your memory that just thinking of it will spark joy in you.

I love going back to those places and leaving reviews, both for my own enjoyment and to try to just get one other person to experience it for the first time. To me, that is what being a Local Guide is all about. I can go read any number of professional reviews about fancy chain restaurants or the next celebrity chefs new spot, but how many well-written, detailed reviews are you finding for that local Guatemalan place in the middle of a block of random row homes? Not many! So these places just sit, serving excellent dishes to those who know but go on unknown to all the other just passing by day in and day out. That is where the importance of Local Guides plays shut a vital role to those local establishments.

That is what I love about being a Local Guide!
