The Hospitality Industry in Mumbai has constantly churned out new and unique restaurants with impressive concepts and wonderful experiences over the years. There has been a surge in the number of restaurants opting for Modern and International cuisines and in such times, it is indeed a challenge to stay true to the roots and still manage to blow away people’s minds. Family Tree, which has three outlets in Thane, Ghatkopar and Mulund has done exactly that. They have setup the concept around families and Indian meals while setting up a modern ambience which revolves around an artistic depiction of families.
Although their main idea revolves around Indian Food and enjoying meals with your family, they have quite an extensive menu which includes international cuisines too. They have managed to keep everyone’s taste in mind with the newer and more modern dishes catering to the youngsters of the family and the more traditional ones for the seasoned ones of the family, just like the way they usually prefer.
What I love about this place is the perfection of flavor and the variety that they have to offer. They even have some blissful beverages and soulful desserts which make this one a total package. Few of their star dishes are mentioned below.
Their Vegetarian Tandoori Platter is loaded with all the possible velgetables which could be grilled and moreover, to utmost perfection. Every element of this dish is marinated with just the right amount of spice and grilled to a medium with just the right amount of crisp. Malai Paneer, Broccoli, potatoes, mushrooms and baby corn were served with a side of spicy green chutney and salad.
The Burrito Supreme was one of the starters off their European menu. Rolls of burrito stuffed with mashed beans, vegetables, molten cheese and Mexican rice were served along with sour cream and salsa. It was a filling and flavorful dish. Their corn shots are a pretty good one too. Soft and sweet boiled corn tossed with tomatoes, cheese and sour cream make for great appetizers and set the perfect tone for the meal. The best of their menu is their range of Indian Gravies and preparations. The Paneer Khurchan is their speciality and so is the spicy Veg Kolhapuri. The Paneer Khurchan consists of a red spicy gravy based , cottage cheese dish where it is smashed and spiced with Indian flavors and vegetables as well as sliced chillies. It tastes the best when paired with Butter Garlic Naan.
The Veg Kolhapuri on the other hand is traditional made with Kolhapuri spices and is loaded with vegetables and cooked in a tomato based gravy. It is usually served with a crispy fried red chilli on the top and it is spicier than the usual North Indian Gravies. However, this one tastes absolutely delicious and you can get the raw flavor of Indian spices in this one.
The beverages available here are quite a handful and they are curated perfectly to go with the meals. Their Mojitos are quite refreshing and their shakes are wonderful. Their Blueberry Cheesecake Shake is one of their best. It is thick, rich in flavor, consistent in the texture and quite filling. The crumbs of crackers give it the much needed crunch and top it off to give a wholesome drink.
They even have meals to offer which are basically like a combination of their Indian gravies and dal to make a perfect lunch along with dessert and rice preparations too. Even their desserts are quite varied. Not only do they have the classic sizzling brownie, but also, chocolate fondue, cheesecakes and Indian desserts like the Gulab Jamun to choose from.
It is a complete package and not only do you get a touch of Indian cuisine but also a glimpse into a lot of them from all over the world. It is a family place through and through but the food here will cater to everyone who is a vegetarian. To summarize it all, this one is a place which will definitely ensure good memories, good food and a great time.
