My favorite Kerala Food place in Malaysia - M Grill Kuala Lumpur #CommunityFoodFightChallenge

2020 has been the year that was not. For past so many months, life is like being stuck into a small compartment and not being able to break free, run around, and experience life. It’s about a year of compromises, hoping that our sacrifice of staying put, will help stem and slow the Covid-19 pandemic.

So when @AdrianLunsong and @Velvel proposed a Community Food Fight Challenge of highlighting our favorite food places this year, I was lost in thought, I haven’t been eating out much at all.

Still, if I had to pick a place, the place that came to my mind is my favorite authentic Kerala food restaurant in Malaysia.

M Grill (https://goo.gl/maps/WvnEwy6Yop8sFuDZ9 ) which is located in the Bukit Bintang district in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Their cooks and chefs are from places of origin in Kerala, so the food is authentic with original flavors.

Eating here brings me connectedness to the community there, we are a very small tightly knitted community, no matter where in the world we are.

[Photo above] This was my food parcel for Eid one of the main celebrations in Malaysia. An authentic original Kerala Thalassery Malabar Chicken Biryani. The special uniqueness of this biryani rice is that is must use the very limited and special Jeerakasala short grain rice (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayanad_Gandhakasala_rice ) which is grown in the Wayanad district of Kerala. Almost all other biryani rice will usually use Basmathi long grain rice. The rice grains are extremely fragrant, and stay in shape after cooking. Flavored with spices directly from Kerala the local cardamoms, cloves, bay leaves, cinammon, and many others. Cooked expertly with tender marinated chicken pieces and served with mango pickles (achar) and papadam (lentil crackers). It’s a experience to eat.

[Photo above] Another Kerala specialty which is Kizhi Porotta, which is flatbread stuffed with spiced meat, and wrapped and grilled in banana leaves.

Friends living around Klang Valley in Malaysia, most recommended to visit this place. They also have bbq grill as well as a buffet spread before the Covid pandemic (please do call ahead to enquire what is available on the day).

@StephenAbraham Kizhi porotta looks delicious! And it looks similar to my favorite roti prata/roti canai filled with chicken curry.

Hi @StephenAbraham

Thanks for participating in #CommunityFoodFightChallenge .

I’ve watched your video that you made with lots of Kerala Local Guides when you visited Kerala. That was so awesome!

Now I believe that you miss the trip so much! Glad to know that you could find the authentic Kerala food in your country :slightly_smiling_face:

Indian BBQ grill seems so interesting! If it is available again and you try it, please share your BBQ experience with us

@StephenAbraham Wow… the food looks so good! I’m guessing that you can tell the difference in the food whether it’s authentic or not? I’m not very good at stuff like that… my brain works along the lines of “Yummy or not yummy?” and that’s about it! :joy: I saved the place in my maps now and I roughly know where it is in the BB area! :yum: Thanks for this share!
