My experience in the Brooklyn Bridge

Hi people!
In my travel to New York I visited the Brooklyn Bridge and was a particular experience. The bridge is pretty impressive and I liked it of course but cross it wasn’t easy at all. Why? The amount of people there was incredible, it looked like we were going in a of procession. Forget to get a good photo in the bridge, I did my best.

About the bridge:
*Designed by John Roebling.
*Located between Manhattan & Brooklyn was the longest suspension bridge in the world by the time of it opened in May 24 of 1883 with 6,016 ft (1,833.7 m).
*Was named the New York and Brooklyn Bridge or the East River Bridge but was officially renamed the Brooklyn Bridge in 1915.
*Only passenger vehicles and pedestrian and bicycle traffic are permitted.
*The bridge “elongates and contracts between the extremes of temperature from 14 to 16 inches”
*The Brooklyn Bridge is supported by four main cables, each main cable measures 15.75 inches (40.0 cm) in diameter.
*The bridge’s two suspension towers are 278 feet (85 m) tall, built of limestone, granite, and Rosendale cement.
*The Bridge has 6 lanes of roadway.
*Has been renovated several times, including in the 1950s, 1980s, and 2010s.
*Many people jumped from The Brooklyn Bridge, the first one was Robert Odlum swimming instructor on May 19 1885, why he did it? to demostrate that people did not die simply from falling through the air and also for the desire of fame. He died less than an hour after the jump.
*Has been designated a National Historic Landmark, a New York City landmark, and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Despite the amount of people there is a must if you’re going to New York City.

@SilvyC that is a lot of interesting information! I love driving across bridges like this one - it always feels just a little bit like a montage moment from a movie. Your facts about the bridge’s history were interesting… 14 to 16 inches? So much!
