My edits with clear proof keep getting rejected

It’s not very often that I check the status of edits that I’ve submitted, but when I do, I am repeatedly surprised how often my edits are rejected, when it seems like I have provided clear and compelling evidence for my correction. There really needs to be more transparency on why a particular edit is rejected. We are all generously helping Google supply a better product (without getting paid for our services). The quickest way to discourage your unpaid workforce from contributing is to repeatedly and quickly reject their edits without telling them why or what they can do about it.

Here is my most recent example: I went to my nearest Hardee’s to buy dinner and discovered it was closed. As you can plainly see from my photos, the signage has been removed from the building and there was a sign posted on the door, explaining that the location is closed. I took two photos to submit to Google and my edit was rejected.

Can there be a more obvious example of a closed business? Who does it benefit to keep a closed business showing as open and operating? Who rejected my edit? Why did they reject it? I find this frustrating and unhelpful, as both a Google Guide and a user of Google maps.

Hello @Philadopolis

To start with,I’ll give you a very warm and friendly greetings of welcome to local guides connect forum.

Now regarding edits,it’s mostly the AI that has been trained for this function that approves or rejects edits. Once in a while you have a Google staff look into some edits that might need special attention. As a result no one has a personal issue or grievance with you as a local guide, please don’t take it to heart. If you could share a link to the location perhap,we could look into it for you.

Many factors are responsible for approval/rejection of edits from local gudies. Perhaps you’ll be interested in Why-is-my-edit-status-Pending-or-Not-Applied? . Another interesting article is How-to-make-sense-of-Google-s-responses-to-your-edits .

Hi @Philadopolis

When dealing with such data issues I would recommend that you include a link to the place.

Is the place? https://goo.gl/maps/5tejwQsG7pBPetmt5

If so, please note that the listing is claimed by the business. That means it is pretty well protected from edits suggested by users.

I would recommend you contact the chain, and if you can find/get through to the person responsible for Google Maps listings they can close it permanently in no time. And I hope they will thank you for reminding me.

Alternatively, you can seek help in the Maps support forum

Hit the Community tab at the top and make a post. You need to attach the relevant documentation. This can include sharing the link to this thread. If the place is marked closed on their website, this could also be relevant documentation.

Cheers
Morten

PS. I share your frustration over getting legit edits rejected.
