Please I want to find out what the cause of this is. When I add a new place, it takes a few minutes for it to be approved. But when I edit a place, it takes more than one week for it to be approved. This happens not only on places other people have added, even the ones I have added myself. This was not so earlier on when I started the program. Please what could be the reason behind it? Is there anything I need to be mindful of when editing the Maps?

The most common reason is that the team behind Map Editing at Google need to research each edit that comes in. Some offer a quick solution or fact check but others take longer, for example, if the team need to make a point of contact with the suggested business in question. This could take time as the contact details may be incorrect or the business may be closed at the time Google tries to get in touch.
There is also the notion to remember that it is your edit suggestion amongst thousands of others coming in at any one time.
At least, this is the way I have come to understand the process.

Every edit need to be verified, mostly through other edits or fact checking, and millions of users are editing maps every day

I thought the Google team working on Maps do not trust the information I provide. Now I understand it has to go through some process before approval. But I still think it takes too long. For instance, I reported a closed road and it took more than two weeks before it was approved.
In any case, I think they know best.

@iamireku in addition to what @ErmesT and @LeeBee-SA said, you also have to add helpful features as your editing like photos of the place, telephone and many more , they bring out evidence on what you’re editing and hence you edit won’t take so long . Thank you
