My County Wicklow (Ireland)

Firstly I want to say a big hello to everyone on here. My name is Shane and I am new to Local Guides. I have been recently sharing my photograpphy on Google Maps and have also been helping to add missing places of historical importance around my local area County Wicklow here in Ireland. I am delighted that I have come acrossthis community.

Let me tell you a bit about County Wicklow, it is located in the East of Ireland south of Dublin. It is knicknamed “The Garden of Ireland” and is considered one of themost beautiful counties on the island. Wicklow has it all, from lovely coastal towns to mountainous hiking areas. Here are some of my photographs of what I consider some of my favorite places around Wicklow.

The Monastic City of Glendalough. See it on Google Maps

The Vartry Reservoir Draw Tower. See it on Google Maps

The 1301 ruins of Black Castle. See it on Google Maps

Wicklow Head with 3 historical Lighthouses. See it on Google Maps

The remains of a Cornish Engine House in Avoca. See it on Google Maps

The Valley of the Two Lakes (Glendalough). See it on Google Maps

This is just a selection of photographs out of hundreds that I have from Wicklow. It really is a wonderful county to visit and it is easily accessible via Bus/Rail/Car. More information can be found on the official Visit Wicklow Website.

Hi Paul,

Glad you like the post. Yes I treated myself to a new Olympus OM-D EM-5 for Christmas. I used to be a Full Frame Canon user, but felt that I didn’t need anything of that calibre going forward.

Hello @user_not_found ,

Welcome to Connect!

Thank you for sharing these incredible photos with us! Is there a reason behind the black and white photography?

Feel free to add the Google Maps links of the places you’ve mentioned in your post. By doing so, other Local Guides will visualize better where each spot is located. You can edit your publication following the helpful instructions that you will find here: Edit your post - Why and How To.

Since this is your first post, please take some time to read the following article which will help you in the Community: How to choose a topic for your Connect post.

Hi Borris, Thank you, glad you like my photographs. I have always been a fan of Black & White and find that sometimes they bring out more detail in certain photographs. I am still getting used to Local Guides and Google Maps platform so I will be sure to add the links into this post when I can.

Cheers

Shane

Thank you for the details @user_not_found .

I love black and white photography as well and I completely agree with you, that it brings out more details! I would even add that, it’s more classy!

I would like to let you know that you can tag Connect members in your posts by writing @ before their name. This way they receive a notification and know that you are trying to communicate with them directly.

Thanks @BorrisS you learn something new every day :slightly_smiling_face:

In regards to B&W Photography I find that the internet is swamped with over the top photo editing making places look un-reliastic, I feel the the B&W photos bring back a sense of originality and simplicity. Some may not agree :slightly_smiling_face:

I have also added in links to the Google Maps locations/reviews which should be helpful to other users. Thanks again for the tips on helping me get started. I look forward to sharing more on this platform.

Thanks @matchachasen you would really enjoy it. What I show in my photographs are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the beauty of Wicklow.

Hi @user_not_found

What an interesting article! I remember starting my journey on Google Maps a few years back in the same way.

I couldn’t simply focus on reading for the images are so eye-catching. What time of the day do you prefer for photography?

And yes! Welcome to Connect!

Thank you, I prefer day time photography, I prefer not to carry a tripod around lol.
